الْحَمْدُ للهِ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ.
al-ḥamdu li-llāhi rabbi l-'ālamīn.
All praise belongs to God, Lord of the worlds.
أللَّهُمَّ لَـكَ الْحَمْدُ بَدِيْعَ السَّموَاتِ وَالأَرْضِ،
allāhumma laka l-ḥamdu badī‘a s-samāwāti wa-l-arḍi,
O God, to You belongs the praise, O Originator of the heavens and the earth,
ذَا الْجَلاَلِ وَالإكْرَامِ،
dhā l-jalāli wa-l-ikrām,
Possessor of Majesty and Generosity,
رَبَّ الاَرْبَابِ وَإلهَ كُلِّ مَألُوه،
rabba l-arbābi wa-ilāha kulli ma’lūh,
Lord of all lords, and God of every worshipped one,
وَخَالِقَ كُلِّ مَخْلُوق،
wa-khāliqa kulli makhlūq,
and Creator of every creature,
وَوَارِثَ كُلِّ شَيْء، لَيْسَ كَمِثْلِهِ شَـيْءٌ،
wa-wāritha kulli shay’in, laysa ka-mithlihi shay’un,
and Inheritor of everything, there is nothing like Him,
وَلا يَعْزُبُ عَنْهُ عِلْمُ شَيْء،
wa-lā ya‘zubu ‘anhu ‘ilmu shay’in,
and the knowledge of nothing is hidden from Him,
وَهُوَ بِكُلِّ شَيْء مُحِيطٌ،
wa-huwa bi-kulli shay’in muḥīṭun,
and He encompasses everything,
وَهُوَ عَلَى كُلِّ شَيْء رَقِيبٌ،
wa-huwa ‘alā kulli shay’in raqībun,
and He is a Watcher over everything,
أَنْتَ الله لاَ إلهَ إلاَّ أَنْتَ الاَحَـدُ الْمُتَوَحِّدُ الْفَرْدُ الْمُتَفَرِّدُ،
anta llāhu lā ilāha illā anta l-aḥadu l-mutawaḥḥidu l-fardu l-mutafarridu,
You are God, there is no god but You, the Single, the Singular, the Unique, the One and Only,
وَأَنْتَ اللهُ لاَ إلهَ إلاَّ أَنْتَ الْكَرِيمُ الْمُتَكَرِّمُ،
wa-anta llāhu lā ilāha illā anta l-karīmu l-mutakarrim,
and You are God, there is no god but You, the Generous, the Self-Exalting in Generosity,
الْعَظِيمُ الْمُتَعَظِّمُ، الْكَبِيرُ الْمُتَكَبِّرُ.
al-‘aẓīmu l-muta‘aẓẓim, al-kabīru l-mutakabbir.
the Magnificent, the Self-Exalting in Magnificence, the Great, the Self-Exalting in Greatness.
وَأَنْتَ اللهُ لاَ إلهَ إلاَّ أَنْتَ العَلِيُّ الْمُتَعَالِ، الْشَدِيْدُ الْمِحَـالِ.
wa-anta llāhu lā ilāha illā anta l-‘alīyyu l-muta‘āl, ash-shadīdu l-miḥāl.
and You are God, there is no god but You, the High, the Exalted, the Severe in Might.
وَأَنْتَ اللهُ لا إلهَ إلاَّ أَنْتَ الـرَّحْمنُ الرَّحِيمُ الْعَلِيمُ الْحَكِيمُ.
wa-anta llāhu lā ilāha illā anta ar-raḥmānu r-raḥīmu l-‘alīmu l-ḥakīm.
and You are God, there is no god but You, the All-Merciful, the Ever-Merciful, the All-Knowing, the All-Wise.
وَأَنْتَ اللهُ لا إلهَ إلاّ أَنْتَ السَّمِيعُ الْبَصِيرُ الْقَدِيمُ الْخَبِيرُ،
wa-anta llāhu lā ilāha illā anta as-samī‘u l-baṣīru l-qadīmu l-khabīr,
and You are God, there is no god but You, the All-Hearing, the All-Seeing, the Ancient, the All-Aware,
وَأَنْتَ اللهُ لاَ إلهَ إلاّ أَنْتَ الْكَرِيمُ الاَكْرَمُ الدَّائِمُ الادْوَمُ،
wa-anta llāhu lā ilāha illā anta l-karīmu l-akramu d-dā’imu l-adwam,
and You are God, there is no god but You, the Generous, the Most Generous, the Perpetual, the Most Enduring,
وَأَنْتَ اللهُ لا إلهَ إلاّ أَنْتَ الاوَّلُ
wa-anta llāhu lā ilāha illā anta l-awwal,
and You are God, there is no god but You, the First,
قَبْلَ كُلِّ أَحَد وَالاخِرُ بَعْدَ كُلِّ عَدَد،
qabla kulli aḥadin wa-l-ākhiru ba‘da kulli ‘adad,
before every single one, and the Last after every number,
وَأَنْتَ اللهُ لا إلهَ إلاّ أَنْتَ الدَّانِي فِي عُلُوِّهِ،
wa-anta llāhu lā ilāha illā anta ad-dānī fī ‘uluwwih,
and You are God, there is no god but You, the Near in His height,
وَالْعَالِي فِي دُنُوِّهِ،
wa-l-‘ālī fī dunuwwih,
and the High in His nearness.
وَأَنْتَ اللهُ لاَ إلهَ إلاَّ أَنْتَ ذُو الْبَهَاءِ وَالْمَجْدِ وَالْكِبْرِيَاءِ وَالْحَمْدِ.
wa-anta llāhu lā ilāha illā anta dhū l-bahā’i wa-l-majdi wa-l-kibriyā’i wa-l-ḥamd.
and You are God, there is no god but You, the Possessor of Splendor, Glory, Greatness, and Praise.
وَأَنْتَ اللهُ لاَ إلهَ إلاّ أَنْتَ الَّذِي أَنْشَأْتَ الاشْيَاءَ مِنْ غَيْرِ سِنْخ،
wa-anta llāhu lā ilāha illā anta alladhī ansha’ta l-ashyā’a min ghayri sinkh,
and You are God, there is no god but You, the One who originated things from no root,
وَصَوَّرْتَ مَا صَوَّرْتَ مِنْ غَيْرِ مِثال،
wa-ṣawwarta mā ṣawwarta min ghayri mithāl,
and depicted what You depicted from no example,
وَابْتَدَعْتَ الْمُبْتَدَعَاتِ بِلاَ احْتِذَآء.
wa-btada‘ta l-mubtada‘āti bi-lā iḥtidhā’.
and invented the newly invented things without imitation.
أَنْتَ الَّذِي قَدَّرْتَ كُلَّ شَيْء تَقْدِيراً
anta alladhī qaddarta kulla shay’in taqdīrā,
You are the One who measured out everything with a measure,
وَيَسَّرْتَ كُلَّ شَيْء تَيْسِيراً،
wa-yassarta kulla shay’in taysīrā,
and made everything easy with an ease,
وَدَبَّرْتَ مَا دُونَكَ تَدْبِيْراً.
wa-dabbarta mā dūnaka tadbīrā.
and managed what is beneath You with a management.
وَأَنْتَ الَّذِي لَمْ يُعِنْكَ عَلَى خَلْقِكَ شَرِيكٌ
wa-anta alladhī lam yu‘inka ‘alā khalqika sharīkun,
and You are the One whose creation no partner assisted,
وَلَمْ يُؤازِرْكَ فِي أَمْرِكَ وَزِيرٌ،
wa-lam yu’āzirka fī amrika wazīr,
and whose command no minister backed,
وَلَمْ يَكُنْ لَكَ مُشَاهِدٌ وَلا نَظِيرٌ.
wa-lam yakun laka mushāhidun wa-lā naẓīr.
and for whom there was no witness and no peer.
أَنْتَ الَّذِي أَرَدْتَ فَكَانَ حَتْماً مَا أَرَدْتَ،
anta alladhī aradta fa-kāna ḥatman mā aradt,
You are the One who willed, and what You willed was a certainty,
وَقَضَيْتَ فَكَانَ عَدْلاً مَا قَضَيْتَ،
wa-qaḍayta fa-kāna ‘adlan mā qaḍayt,
and decreed, and what You decreed was justice,
وَحَكَمْتَ فَكَانَ نِصْفاً مَا حَكَمْتَ،
wa-ḥakamta fa-kāna niṣfan mā ḥakamt.
and judged, and what You judged was equity.
أَنْتَ الَّـذِي لا يَحْوِيْـكَ مَكَانٌ
anta alladhī lā yaḥwīka makānun
You are the One whom no place contains,
وَلَمْ يَقُمْ لِسُلْطَانِكَ سُلْطَانٌ،
wa-lam yaqum li-sulṭānika sulṭān,
and whose sovereignty no authority stands up against,
وَلَمْ يُعْيِكَ بُرْهَانٌ وَلا بَيَانٌ.
wa-lam yu‘yīka burhānun wa-lā bayān.
and whom no proof or explanation tires.
أَنْتَ الَّذِي أَحْصَيْتَ كُلَّ شَيْء عَدَدَاً،
anta alladhī aḥṣayta kulla shay’in ‘adadā,
You are the One who counted every single thing in number,
وَجَعَلْتَ لِكُلِّ شَيْء أَمَداً،
wa-ja‘alta li-kulli shay’in amadā,
and assigned a term to everything,
وَقَدَّرْتَ كُلَّ شَيْء تَقْدِيْراً.
wa-qaddarta kulla shay’in taqdīrā.
and measured out everything with a measure.
أَنْتَ الَّذِي قَصُرَتِ الاوْهَامُ عَنْ ذَاتِيَّتِكَ،
anta alladhī qaṣurati al-awhām ‘an dhātiyyatik,
You are the One whose selfhood imaginations fall short of,
وَعَجَزَتِ الافْهَامُ عَنْ كَيْفِيَّتِكَ ،
wa-‘ajazati al-afhām ‘an kayfiyyatika,
and whose nature intellects are incapable of,
وَلَمْ تُدْرِكِ الابْصَارُ مَوْضِعَ أَيْنِيَّتِكَ.
wa-lam tudriki al-abṣāru mawḍi‘a ayniyyatika.
and the eyes have not comprehended the location of Your where-ness.
أَنْتَ الَّذِي لا تُحَدُّ فَتَكُونَ مَحْدُوداً،
anta alladhī lā tuḥaddu fa-takūna maḥdūdā,
You are the One who is not limited so as to be confined,
وَلَمْ تُمَثَّلْ فَتَكُونَ مَوْجُوداً،
wa-lam tumaththal fa-takūna mawjūdā,
and has not been represented so as to be concrete,
وَلَمْ تَلِدْ فَتَكُونَ مَوْلُوداً.
wa-lam talid fa-takūna mawlūdā.
and has not begotten so as to be begotten.
أَنْتَ الَّذِي لا ضِدَّ مَعَكَ فَيُعَانِدَكَ،
anta alladhī lā ḍidda ma‘ak fa-yu‘ānidak,
You are the One with whom there is no contrary to oppose You,
وَلا عِدْلَ فَيُكَاثِرَكَ، وَلاَ نِدَّ لَكَ فَيُعَارِضَكَ.
wa-lā ‘idl fa-yukāthirak, wa-lā nidda lak fa-yu‘āriḍak.
and no equal to outnumber You, and no peer to rival You.
أَنْتَ الَّـذِي ابْتَدَأ وَاخْتَـرَعَ
anta alladhī ibtada’a wa-khtara‘,
You are the One who originated and devised,
وَاسْتَحْدَثَ وَابْتَـدَعَ
wa-staḥdatha wa-btada‘,
and brought forth and innovated,
وَأَحْسَنَ صُنْعَ مَا صَنَعَ،
wa-aḥsana ṣun‘a mā ṣana‘,
and perfected the making of what He made.
سُبْحَانَكَ! مَا أَجَلَّ شَأنَكَ،
subḥānak! mā ajalla sha’nak,
Glory be to You! How magnificent is Your station,
وَأَسْنَى فِي الامَاكِنِ مَكَانَكَ،
wa-asnā fī l-amākini makānak,
and how sublime is Your place among places,
وَأَصْدَعَ بِالْحَقِّ فُرقَانَكَ.
wa-aṣda‘a bi-l-ḥaqqi furqānak.
and how clear is Your distinction by truth!
سُبْحَانَكَ مِنْ لَطِيفٍ مَا أَلْطَفَكَ،
subḥānaka min laṭīfin mā alṭafak,
Glory be to You, from a Kind One, how kind You are,
وَرَؤُوفٍ مَا أَرْأَفَكَ، وَحَكِيمٍ مَا أَعْرَفَكَ!
wa-ra’ūfin mā ar’afak, wa-ḥakīmin mā a‘rafak!
and a Compassionate One, how compassionate You are, and a Wise One, how knowing You are!
سُبْحَانَكَ مِنْ مَلِيْكٍ مَا أَمْنَعَكَ،
subḥānaka min malīkin mā amna‘ak,
Glory be to You, from a Sovereign, how impregnable You are,
وَجَوَادٍ مَا أَوْسَعَكَ، وَرَفِيعٍ مَا أَرْفَعَكَ،
wa-jawādin mā awsa‘ak, wa-rafī‘in mā arfa‘ak,
and a Generous One, how vast You are, and a Sublime One, how high You are!
ذُو الْبَهاءِ وَالْمَجْدِ وَالْكِبْرِيَاءِ وَالْحَمْدِ .
dhū l-bahā’i wa-l-majdi wa-l-kibriyā’i wa-l-ḥamd.
The Possessor of Splendor, Glory, Greatness, and Praise.
سُبْحَانَكَ بَسَطْتَ بِالْخَيْرَاتِ يَدَكَ
subḥānaka basaṭta bi-l-khayrāti yadak
Glory be to You, You have stretched forth Your Hand with all good things,
وَعُرِفَتِ الْهِدَايَةُ مِنْ عِنْدِكَ،
wa-‘urifati al-hidāyatu min ‘indik,
and guidance is known to come from You,
فَمَنِ الْتَمَسَكَ لِدِينٍ أَوْ دُنْيا وَجَدَكَ.
fa-mani l-tamasak li-dīnin aw dunyā wajadak.
so whoever seeks You for religion or for this world, finds You.
سُبْحَانَكَ خَضَعَ لَكَ مَنْ جَرى فِي عِلْمِكَ،
subḥānaka khaḍa‘a lak man jarā fī ‘ilmik,
Glory be to You, whoever runs within Your knowledge submits to You,
وَخَشَعَ لِعَظَمَتِكَ مَا دُونَ عَرْشِكَ،
wa-khasha‘a li-‘aẓamatika mā dūna ‘arshik,
and whatever is beneath Your Throne humbles itself to Your greatness,
وَانْقَادَ لِلتَّسْلِيْمِ لَكَ كُلُّ خَلْقِكَ.
wa-nqāda li-t-taslīmi lak kullu khalqik.
and all Your creation yields to submission to You.
سُبْحَانَكَ لاَ تُحَسَّ، وَلاَ تُجَسُّ، وَلاَ تُمَسُّ،
subḥānaka lā tuḥass, wa-lā tujass, wa-lā tumass,
Glory be to You, You are not perceived by sense, nor felt, nor touched,
وَلاَ تُكَادُ، وَلاَ تُمَاطُ، وَلاَ تُنَازَعُ، وَلاَ تُجَارى،
wa-lā tukād, wa-lā tumāṭ, wa-lā tunāza‘, wa-lā tujārā,
nor plotted against, nor resisted, nor contended with, nor competed with,
وَلاَ تُمَارَى، وَلاَ تُخَادَعُ، وَلاَ تُمَاكَرُ.
wa-lā tumārā, wa-lā tukhāda‘, wa-lā tumākar.
nor disputed, nor deceived, nor tricked.
سُبْحَانَكَ سَبِيلُكَ جَدَدٌ، وَأَمْرُكَ رَشَدٌ، وَأَنْتَ حَيٌّ صَمَدٌ.
subḥānaka sabīluka jadad, wa-amruka rashad, wa-anta ḥayyun ṣamad.
Glory be to You, Your path is smooth, and Your command is guidance, and You are Ever-Living, Everlasting.
سُبْحَانَكَ قَوْلُكَ حُكْمٌ، وَقَضَآؤُكَ حَتْمٌ، وَإرَادَتُكَ عَزْمٌ.
subḥānaka qawluka ḥukm, wa-qaḍā’uka ḥatm, wa-irādatuka ‘azm.
Glory be to You, Your word is judgment, and Your decree is certain, and Your will is determination.
سُبْحَانَكَ لاَ رَادَّ لِمَشِيَّتِكَ، وَلاَ مُبَدِّلَ لِكَلِمَاتِكَ.
subḥānaka lā rādda li-mashiyyatika, wa-lā mubaddila li-kalimātik.
Glory be to You, there is no repeller of Your will, and no changer of Your words.
سُبْحَانَكَ بَاهِرَ الايآتِ، فَاطِرَ السَّمَوَاتِ بَارِئ، النَّسَماتِ.
subḥānaka bāhira al-āyāti, fāṭira as-samāwāti bāri’ an-nasamāt.
Glory be to You, O dazzling with signs, O Creator of the heavens, O Originator of the breaths (souls).
لَكَ الْحَمْدُ حَمْدَاً يَدُومُ بِدَوَامِكَ،
laka l-ḥamdu ḥamdan yadūmu bi-dawāmik,
To You belongs praise, a praise that endures with Your endurance,
وَلَكَ الْحَمْدُ حَمْداً خَالِداً بِنِعْمَتِكَ،
wa-laka l-ḥamdu ḥamdan khālidan bi-ni‘matik,
and to You belongs praise, an eternal praise by Your blessing,
وَلَكَ الْحَمْدُ حَمْداً يُوَازِي صُنْعَكَ،
wa-laka l-ḥamdu ḥamdan yuwāzī ṣun‘ak,
and to You belongs praise, a praise that equals Your work,
وَلَكَ الْحَمْدُ حَمْداً يَزِيدُ عَلَى رِضَاكَ،
wa-laka l-ḥamdu ḥamdan yazīdu ‘alā riḍāk,
and to You belongs praise, a praise that exceeds Your pleasure,
وَلَكَ الْحَمْدُ حَمْداً مَعَ حَمْدِ كُلِّ حَامِد،
wa-laka l-ḥamdu ḥamdan ma‘a ḥamdi kulli ḥāmid,
and to You belongs praise, a praise alongside the praise of every praiser,
وَشُكْراً يَقْصُرُ عَنْهُ شُكْرُ كُلِّ شَاكِر،
wa-shukran yaqṣuru ‘anhu shukru kulli shākir,
and thanks that the thanks of every thank-giver falls short of,
حَمْداً لاَ يَنْبَغِي إلاَّ لَكَ،
ḥamdan lā yanbaghī illā lak,
a praise that is not fitting except for You,
وَلاَ يُتَقَرَّبُ بِهِ إلاَّ إلَيْكَ،
wa-lā yutaqarrabu bihī illā ilayk,
and by which closeness is not sought except with You,
حَمْداً يُسْتَدَامُ بِهِ الاَوَّلُ،
ḥamdan yustadāmu bihī l-awwal,
a praise by which the first [blessing] is sustained,
وَيُسْتَدْعَى بِهِ دَوَامُ الاخِرِ،
wa-yustad‘ā bihī dawāmu l-ākhir,
and by which the permanence of the last [blessing] is sought,
حَمْداً يَتَضَاعَفُ عَلَى كُرُورِ الاَزْمِنَةِ،
ḥamdan yataḍā‘afu ‘alā kurūri l-azminah,
a praise that is multiplied through the repetition of ages,
وَيَتَزَايَدُ أَضْعَافَاً مُتَرَادِفَةً،
wa-yatazāyadu aḍ‘āfan mutarādifah,
and increases in successive multiples,
حَمْداً يَعْجِزُ عَنْ إحْصَآئِهِ الْحَفَظَةُ،
ḥamdan ya‘jizu ‘an iḥṣā’ihi l-ḥafaẓah,
a praise that the guardian angels are incapable of counting,
وَيَزِيدُ عَلَى مَا أَحْصَتْهُ فِي كِتابِكَ الْكَتَبَةُ،
wa-yazīdu ‘alā mā aḥṣat-hu fī kitābika l-katabah,
and exceeds what the scribes have counted in Your Book,
حَمْداً يُوازِنُ عَرْشَكَ المَجِيْدَ،
ḥamdan yuwāzinu ‘arshaka l-majīd,
a praise that balances Your Glorious Throne,
وَيُعَادِلُ كُرْسِيَّكَ الرَّفِيعَ،
wa-yu‘ādilu kursiyyaka r-rafī‘,
and equals Your Exalted Footstool,
حَمْداً يَكْمُلُ لَدَيْكَ ثَوَابُهُ،
ḥamdan yakmulu ladayka thawābuh,
a praise whose reward is completed with You,
وَيَسْتَغْرِقُ كُلَّ جَزَآء جَزَآؤُهُ،
wa-yastaghriqu kulla jazā’in jazā’uh,
and whose recompense includes every reward,
حَمْداً ظَاهِرُهُ وَفْقٌ لِبَاطِنِهِ،
ḥamdan ẓāhiruhū wafqun li-bāṭinih,
a praise whose outward is in accord with its inward,
وَبَاطِنُهُ وَفْقٌ لِصِدْقِ النِّيَّةِِ،
wa-bāṭinuhū wafqun li-ṣidqi n-niyyah,
and whose inward is in accord with the sincerity of intention,
حَمْداً لَمْ يَحْمَدْكَ خَلْقٌ مِثْلَهُ،
ḥamdan lam yaḥmadka khalqun mithluh,
a praise like which no creature has praised You,
وَلاَ يَعْرِفُ أَحَدٌ سِوَاكَ فَضْلَهُ،
wa-lā ya‘rifu aḥadun siwāka faḍlah,
and whose merit no one knows except You,
حَمْداً يُعَانُ مَنِ اجْتَهَدَ فِي تَعْدِيْدِهِ،
ḥamdan yu‘ānu mani ijtahada fī ta‘dīdih,
a praise by which one who strives to count it is assisted,
وَيُؤَيَّدُ مَنْ أَغْرَقَ نَزْعَاً فِي تَوْفِيَتِهِ،
wa-yu’ayyad man aghraqa naz‘an fī tawfiyatih,
and one who plunges deeply to fulfill it is supported,
حَمْداً يَجْمَعُ مَا خَلَقْتَ مِنَ الْحَمْدِ،
ḥamdan yajma‘u mā khalaqta min al-ḥamd,
a praise that gathers what You have created of praise,
وَيَنْتَظِمُ مَا أَنْتَ خَالِقُهُ مِنْ بَعْدُ،
wa-yantaẓimu mā anta khāliquhū min ba‘d,
and arranges what You are to create after,
حَمْداً لاَ حَمْدَ أَقْرَبُ إلَى قَوْلِكَ مِنْهُ،
ḥamdan lā ḥamda aqrabu ilā qawlika minh,
a praise no praise is nearer to Your saying than it,
وَلاَ أَحْمَدَ مِمَّنْ يَحْمَدُكَ بِهِ،
wa-lā aḥmada mimman yaḥmaduka bih,
and no one is more worthy of praise than him who praises You with it,
حَمْداً يُوجِبُ بِكَرَمِكَ الْمَزِيدَ بِوُفُورِهِ
ḥamdan yūjibu bi-karamika l-mazīda bi-wufūrih,
a praise that necessitates the increase by Your generosity through its abundance,
وَتَصِلُهُ بِمَزِيْد بَعْدَ مَزِيْد طَوْلاً مِنْكَ،
wa-taṣiluhū bi-mazīdin ba‘da mazīdin ṭawlan mink.
and which You join with increase upon increase, as a favor from You.
حَمْداً يَجِبُ لِكَرَمِ وَجْهِكَ، وَيُقَابِلُ عِزَّ جَلاَلِكَ.
ḥamdan yajibu li-karami wajhik, wa-yuqābilu ‘izza jalālik.
a praise that is necessary for the generosity of Your Face, and meets the glory of Your Majesty.
رَبِّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّد وَآلِ مُحَمَّد
rabbi ṣalli ‘alā muḥammad wa āli muḥammad
My Lord, bless Muḥammad and the Household of Muḥammad,
الْمُنْتَجَبِ، الْمُصْطَفَى،
al-muntajab, al-muṣṭafā,
the Chosen, the Select,
الْمُكَرَّمِ، الْمُقَرَّبِ، أَفْضَلَ صَلَوَاتِكَ،
al-mukarram, al-muqarrab, afḍala ṣalawātik,
the Honored, the Brought Near, with the best of Your blessings,
وَبارِكْ عَلَيْهِ أَتَمَّ بَرَكاتِكَ،
wa-bārik ‘alayhi atamma barakātik,
and bless him with the most perfect of Your blessings,
وَتَرَحَّمْ عَلَيْهِ أَمْتَعَ رَحَمَاتِكَ.
wa-taraḥḥam ‘alayhi amta‘a raḥamātik.
and have mercy upon him with the most enjoyable of Your mercies.
رَبِّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّد وَآلِهِ، صَلاَةً زَاكِيَةً،
rabbi ṣalli ‘alā muḥammad wa ālih, ṣalātan zākiyah,
My Lord, bless Muḥammad and his Household, a pure blessing,
لاَ تَكُونُ صَلاَةٌ أَزْكَى مِنْهَا،
lā takūnu ṣalātun azkā minhā,
than which there is no purer blessing,
وَصَلِّ عَلَيْهِ صَلاَةً نَامِيَةً،
wa-ṣalli ‘alayhi ṣalātan nāmiyah,
and bless him with an increasing blessing,
لاَ تَكُونُ صَلاةٌ أَنْمَى مِنْهَا،
lā takūnu ṣalātun anmā minhā,
than which there is no more increasing blessing,
وَصَلِّ عَلَيْهِ صَلاةً رَاضِيَةً،
wa-ṣalli ‘alayhi ṣalātan rāḍiyah,
and bless him with a pleasing blessing,
لاَ تَكُونُ صَلاةٌ فَوْقَهَا.
lā takūnu ṣalātun fawqahā.
above which there is no blessing.
رَبِّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّد وَآلِهِ،
rabbi ṣalli ‘alā muḥammad wa ālih,
My Lord, bless Muḥammad and his Household,
صَلاَةً تُرْضِيهِ وَتَزِيدُ عَلَى رِضَاهُ،
ṣalātan turḍīhi wa-tazīdu ‘alā riḍāh,
a blessing that satisfies him and exceeds his satisfaction,
وَصَلِّ عَلَيْهِ صَلاَةً تُرْضِيكَ وَتَزِيدُ عَلَى رِضَاكَ لَهُ،
wa-ṣalli ‘alayhi ṣalātan turḍīka wa-tazīdu ‘alā riḍāk lah,
and bless him with a blessing that satisfies You and exceeds Your satisfaction with him,
وَصَلِّ عَلَيْهِ صَلاَةً لاَ تَرْضَى لَهُ إلاَّ بِهَا،
wa-ṣalli ‘alayhi ṣalātan lā tarḍā lahū illā bihā,
and bless him with a blessing with which You are not satisfied for him except by it,
وَلاَ تَرى غَيْرَهُ لَهَا أَهْلاً.
wa-lā tarā ghayrahū lahā ahlā.
and You do not see anyone other than him worthy of it.
رَبِّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّد وَآلِهِ،
rabbi ṣalli ‘alā muḥammad wa ālih,
My Lord, bless Muḥammad and his Household,
صَلاَةً تُجَاوِزُ رِضْوَانَكَ، وَيَتَّصِلُ اتِّصَالُهَا بِبَقَآئِكَ،
ṣalātan tujāwizu riḍwānak, wa-yattaṣilu ittiṣāluhā bi-baqā’ik,
a blessing that surpasses Your pleasure, and whose connection is joined to Your permanence,
وَلاَ يَنْفَدُ كَمَا لاَ تَنْفَدُ كَلِماتُكَ.
wa-lā yanfadu ka-mā lā tanfadu kalimātuk.
and does not run out just as Your words do not run out.
رَبِّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّد وَآلِهِ
rabbi ṣalli ‘alā muḥammad wa ālih
My Lord, bless Muḥammad and his Household,
وَآلِهِ صَلاَةً تَنْتَظِمُ صَلَوَاتِ مَلائِكَتِكَ
wa-ālihi ṣalātan tantaẓimu ṣalawāti malā’ikatik
a blessing that incorporates the blessings of Your angels
وَأَنْبِيآئِكَ وَرُسُلِكَ وَأَهْلِ طَاعَتِكَ.
wa-anbiyā’ika wa-rusulik wa-ahli ṭā‘atik.
and Your prophets and Your messengers and the people of Your obedience.
وَتَشْتَمِلُ عَلَى صَلَوَاتِ عِبَادِكَ
wa-tashtamilu ‘alā ṣalawāti ‘ibādik
And it includes the blessings of Your servants,
مِنْ جِنّكَ وَإنْسِكَ وَأَهْلِ إجَابَتِكَ،
min jinnik wa-insik wa-ahli ijābatik,
from Your jinn and Your humankind and the people who respond to You,
وَتَجْتَمِعُ عَلَى صَلاَةِ كُلِّ مَنْ ذَرَأْتَ وَبَرَأْتَ مِنْ أَصْنَافِ خَلْقِكَ.
wa-tajtami‘u ‘alā ṣalāti kulli man dhara’ta wa-bara’ta min aṣnāfi khalqik.
and it collects the blessing of everyone You scattered and created from the varieties of Your creation.
رَبِّ صَلِّ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ
rabbi ṣalli ‘alayhi wa-ālih
My Lord, bless him and his Household,
صَلاَةً تُحِيطُ بِكُلِّ صَلاَة سَالِفَة وَمُسْتَأْنَفَة،
ṣalātan tuḥīṭu bi-kulli ṣalātin sālifah wa-musta’nafah,
a blessing that encompasses every past and renewed blessing,
وَصَلِّ عَلَيْهِ وَعَلَى آلِهِ
wa-ṣalli ‘alayhi wa-‘alā ālih
and bless him and his Household,
صَلاَةً مَرْضِيَّةً لَكَ وَلِمَنْ دُونَكَ،
ṣalātan marḍīyyatan lak wa-li-man dūnak,
a blessing that is pleasing to You and to those beneath You,
وَتُنْشِئُ مَعَ ذَلِكَ صَلَوَات تُضَاعِفُ مَعَهَا تِلْكَ الصَّلَوَاتِ عِنْدَهَا،
wa-tunshi’u ma‘a dhālika ṣalawātin tuḍā‘ifu ma‘ahā tilka aṣ-ṣalawāt ‘indahā,
and which creates, along with that, blessings that You multiply those blessings with, near it,
وَتَزِيدُهَا عَلَى كُرُورِ الاَيَّامِ زِيَادَةً
wa-tazīduhā ‘alā kurūri al-ayyām ziyādah
and You increase them upon the repetition of days, an increase
فِي تَضَاعِيفَ لاَ يَعُدُّهَا غَيْرُكَ.
fī taḍā‘īfa lā ya‘udduhā ghayruk.
in multiples that none but You can count.
رَبِّ صَلِّ عَلَى أَطَائِبِ أَهْلِ بَيْتِهِ
rabbi ṣalli ‘alā aṭā’ibi ahli baytih
My Lord, bless the purest of his Household,
الَّذِينَ اخْتَرْتَهُمْ لاَِمْرِكَ،
alladhīna ikhtartahum li-amrik,
whom You chose for Your command,
وَجَعَلْتَهُمْ خَزَنَةَ عِلْمِكَ، وَحَفَظَةَ دِيْنِكَ،
wa-ja‘altahum khazanata ‘ilmik, wa-ḥafaẓata dīnik,
and made them the treasurers of Your knowledge, the protectors of Your religion,
وَخُلَفَآءَكَ فِي أَرْضِكَ، وَحُجَجَكَ عَلَى عِبَادِكَ،
wa-khulafā’aka fī arḍik, wa-ḥujajaka ‘alā ‘ibādik,
and Your vicegerents on Your earth, and Your proofs over Your servants,
وَطَهَّرْتَهُمْ مِنَ الرِّجْسِ وَالدَّنَسِ تَطْهِيراً بِإرَادَتِكَ،
wa-ṭahhartahum min al-rijsi wa-d-danasi taṭhīran bi-irādatik,
and purified them from abomination and filth, a purification by Your will,
وَجَعَلْتَهُمُ الْوَسِيْلَةَ إلَيْكَ وَالْمَسْلَكَ إلَى جَنَّتِكَ،
wa-ja‘altahum al-wasīlata ilayk wa-l-maslaka ilā jannatik,
and made them the means to You and the path to Your Paradise.
رَبِّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّد وَآلِهِ
rabbi ṣalli ‘alā muḥammad wa ālih
My Lord, bless Muḥammad and his Household,
صَلاةً تُجْزِلُ لَهُمْ بِهَا مِنْ نِحَلِكَ وَكَرَامَتِكَ،
ṣalātan tujzilu lahum bihā min niḥalik wa-karāmatik,
a blessing by which You make great for them from Your gifts and Your generosity,
وَتُكْمِلُ لَهُمُ الاَشْيَآءَ مِنْ عَطَاياكَ وَنَوَافِلِكَ،
wa-tukmilu lahumu al-ashyā’a min ‘aṭāyāk wa-nawāfilik,
and You complete for them things from Your bestowals and Your supererogatory gifts,
وَتُوَفِّرُ عَلَيْهِمُ الْحَظَّ مِنْ عَوَائِدِكَ وَفَوائِدِكَ.
wa-tuwaffiru ‘alayhim al-ḥaẓẓ min ‘awā’idik wa-fawā’idik.
and You make plentiful for them the portion from Your customary gifts and Your benefits.
رَبِّ صَلِّ عَلَيْهِ وَعَلَيْهِمْ صَلاَةً لاَ أَمَدَ فِي أَوَّلِهَا،
rabbi ṣalli ‘alayhi wa-‘alayhim ṣalātan lā amada fī awwalihā,
My Lord, bless him and them, a blessing whose beginning has no term,
وَلاَ غَايَةَ لاَِمَدِهَا، وَلاَ نِهَايَةَ لاِخِرِهَا.
wa-lā ghāyata li-amadihā, wa-lā nihāyata li-ākhirihā.
and whose term has no limit, and whose end has no termination.
رَبِّ صَلِّ عَلَيْهِمْ زِنَةَ عَرْشِكَ وَمَا دُونَهُ،
rabbi ṣalli ‘alayhim zinata ‘arshik wa-mā dūnah,
My Lord, bless them the weight of Your Throne and what is beneath it,
وَمِلءَ سَموَاتِكَ وَمَا فَوْقَهُنَّ،
wa-mil’a samāwātik wa-mā fawqahunn,
and the fullness of Your heavens and what is above them,
وَعَدَدَ أَرَضِيْكَ، وَمَا تَحْتَهُنَّ، وَمَا بَيْنَهُنَّ،
wa-‘adada araḍīk, wa-mā taḥtahunna, wa-mā baynahunn,
and the number of Your earths, and what is beneath them, and what is between them,
صَلاَةً تُقَرِّبُهُمْ مِنْكَ زُلْفى وَتَكُونُ لَكَ وَلَهُمْ رِضَىً،
ṣalātan tuqarribuhum minka zulfā wa-takūnu lak wa-lahum riḍā,
a blessing that brings them near to You with proximity, and is a pleasure for You and for them,
وَمُتَّصِلَةٌ بِنَظَائِرِهِنَّ أَبَداً.
wa-muttaṣilatun bi-naẓā’irihinn abadan.
and is connected to their likes forever.
أللَّهُمَّ إنَّكَ أَيَّدْتَ دِينَكَ فِي كُلِّ أَوَان
allāhumma innaka ayyadta dīnak fī kulli awān
O God, surely You have supported Your religion in every age
بِإمَام أَقَمْتَهُ عَلَماً لِعِبَادِكَ وَّمَنارَاً فِي بِلاَدِكَ،
bi-imāmin aqamtahū ‘alaman li-‘ibādik wa-manāran fī bilādik,
with an Imam whom You set up as a standard for Your servants and a lighthouse in Your lands,
بَعْدَ أَنْ وَصَلْتَ حَبْلَهُ بِحَبْلِكَ،
ba‘da an waṣalta ḥablahū bi-ḥablik,
after You connected his rope to Your rope,
وَجَعَلْتَهُ الذَّرِيعَةَ إلَى رِضْوَانِكَ،
wa-ja‘altahū adh-dharī‘ata ilā riḍwānik,
and made him the means to Your pleasure,
وَافْتَرَضْتَ طَاعَتَهُ، وَحَذَّرْتَ مَعْصِيَتَهُ،
wa-ftarḍta ṭā‘atahū, wa-ḥadhdharta ma‘ṣiyatahū,
and made his obedience obligatory, and warned against disobeying him,
وَأَمَرْتَ بِامْتِثَالِ أوَاِمِرِه وَالانْتِهَآءِ عِنْدَ نَهْيِهِ،
wa-amarta bi-m-tithāli awāmirih wa-l-intihā’i ‘inda nahyih,
and commanded the compliance with his orders and the stopping at his prohibition,
وَأَلاَّ يَتَقَدَّمَهُ مُتَقَدِّمٌ، وَلاَ يَتَأَخَّرَ عَنْهُ مُتَأَخِّرٌ،
wa-allā yataqaddamahu mutaqaddimun, wa-lā yata’akhkhara ‘anhu muta’akhkhirun,
and that no one should precede him, and no one should lag behind him,
فَهُوَ عِصْمَةُ اللاَّئِذِينَ،
fa-huwa ‘iṣmatu al-lā’idhīn,
so he is the protection of those who seek refuge,
وَكَهْفُ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ، وَعُرْوَةُ الْمُتَمَسِّكِينَ، وَبَهَآءُ الْعَالَمِينَ.
wa-kahfu l-mu’minīn, wa-‘urwatu l-mutamassikīn, wa-bahā’u l-‘ālamīn.
and the cave of the believers, and the handle of those who hold fast, and the splendor of the worlds.
أللَّهُمَّ فَأَوْزِعْ لِوَلِيِّكَ شُكْرَ مَا أَنْعَمْتَ بِهِ عَلَيْهِ،
allāhumma fa-awzi‘ li-walīyyika shukra mā an‘amta bihī ‘alayh,
O God, inspire Your vicegerent to thank You for what You have bestowed upon him,
وَأَوْزِعْنَا مِثْلَهُ فِيهِ، وَآتِهِ مِنْ لَدُنْكَ سُلْطَاناً نَصِيراً،
wa-awzi‘nā mithlahū fīh, wa-ātihī min ladunka sulṭānan naṣīrā,
and inspire us with the like of it in respect to him, and grant him from Your Presence an aiding authority,
وَافْتَحْ لَهُ فَتْحاً يَسِيراً، وَأَعِنْهُ بِرُكْنِكَ الاعَزِّ،
wa-ftaḥ lahū fatḥan yasīrā, wa-a‘inhu bi-ruknika al-a‘azz,
and open for him an easy opening, and assist him with Your most mighty pillar,
وَاشْدُدْ أَزْرَهُ، وَقَوِّ عَضُدَهُ، وَرَاعِهِ بِعَيْنِكَ،
wa-shdud azrah, wa-qawwi ‘aḍudah, wa-rā‘ihī bi-‘aynik,
and strengthen his back, and fortify his arm, and guard him with Your eye,
وَاحْمِهِ بِحِفْظِكَ، وَانْصُرْهُ بِمَلائِكَتِكَ،
wa-ḥmihī bi-ḥifẓik, wa-nṣurhu bi-malā’ikatik,
and protect him with Your preservation, and help him with Your angels,
وَامْدُدْهُ بِجُنْدِكَ الاَغْلَبِ وَأَقِمْ بِهِ كِتَابَكَ وَحُدُودَكَ،
wa-muddahū bi-jundika l-aghlab wa-aqim bihī kitābak wa-ḥudūdak,
and extend him with Your most dominant army, and establish with him Your Book and Your limits,
وَشَرَائِعَكَ وَسُنَنَ رَسُولِكَ صَلَوَاتُكَ اللَّهُمَّ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ،
wa-sharā’i‘ak wa-sunana rasūlik ṣalawātuka allāhumma ‘alayhi wa-ālih,
and Your laws and the traditions of Your Messenger (Your blessings, O God, be upon him and his Household),
وَأَحْيِ بِهِ مَا أَمَاتَهُ الظَّالِمُونَ مِنْ مَعَالِمِ دِينِكَ،
wa-aḥyi bihī mā amātahu aẓ-ẓālimūn min ma‘ālim dīnik,
and revive with him what the wrongdoers have deadened of the landmarks of Your religion,
وَاجْلُ بِهِ صَدَآءَ الْجَوْرِ عَنْ طَرِيقَتِكَ،
wa-jlu bihī ṣadā’a l-jawri ‘an ṭarīqatik,
and scour away with him the rust of injustice from Your path,
وَأَبِنْ بِهِ الضَّرَّآءَ مِنْ سَبِيلِكَ،
wa-abin bihī aḍ-ḍarrā’a min sabīlik,
and remove with him the affliction from Your road
وَأَزِلْ بِهِ النَّاكِبِينَ عَنْ صِرَاطِكَ،
wa-azil bihī an-nākibīn ‘an ṣirāṭik,
and eliminate with him those who turn aside from Your Straight Path,
وَامْحَقْ بِهِ بُغَاةَ قَصْدِكَ عِوَجاً،
wa-mḥaq bihī bughāta qaṣdik ‘iwajān,
and annihilate with him those who unjustly seek deviation from Your aim,
وَأَلِنْ جَانِبَهُ لاَِوْلِيَآئِكَ، وَابْسُطْ يَدَهُ عَلَى أَعْدَائِكَ،
wa-alin jānibahū li-awliyā’ik, wa-bsuṭ yadahū ‘alā a‘dā’ik,
and soften his side for Your friends, and stretch forth his hand against Your enemies,
وَهَبْ لَنا رَأْفَتَهُ وَرَحْمَتَهُ وَتَعَطُّفَهُ وَتَحَنُّنَهُ،
wa-hab lanā ra’fatahū wa-raḥmatahū wa-ta‘aṭṭufahū wa-taḥannunah,
and grant us his tenderness, his mercy, his kindness, and his affection,
وَاجْعَلْنَا لَهُ سَامِعِينَ مُطِيعِينَ، وَفِي رِضَاهُ سَاعِينَ،
wa-j‘alnā lahū sāmi‘īna muṭī‘īn, wa-fī riḍāhu sā‘īn,
and make us listeners to him, obedient, striving in his satisfaction,
وَإلَى نُصْرَتِهِ وَالْمُدَافَعَةِ عَنْهُ مُكْنِفِينَ،
wa-ilā nuṣratihī wa-l-mudāfa‘ati ‘anhu muknifīn,
and helping towards his support and the defense of him,
وَإلَيْكَ وَإلَى رَسُولِكَ صَلَواتُكَ
wa-ilayk wa-ilā rasūlik ṣalawātuk
and approaching You and Your Messenger (Your blessings,
اللَّهُمَّ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ بِذَلِكَ مُتَقَرِّبِينَ.
allāhumma ‘alayhi wa-ālihi bi-dhālika mutaqarrabīn.
O God, be upon him and his Household) by that.
أللَّهُمَّ وَصَلِّ عَلَى أَوْلِيآئِهِمُ الْمُعْتَرِفِينَ بِمَقَامِهِمْ،
allāhumma wa-ṣalli ‘alā awliyā’ihimu al-mu‘tarifīn bi-maqāmihim,
O God, bless their friends who acknowledge their position,
الْمُتَّبِعِينَ مَنْهَجَهُمْ، الْمُقْتَفِيْنَ آثَارَهُمْ،
al-muttabi‘īn manhajahum, al-muqtafīn āthārahum,
follow their method, pursue their footsteps,
الْمُسْتَمْسِكِينَ بِعُرْوَتِهِمْ، الْمُتَمَسِّكِينَ بِوَلاَيَتِهِمْ،
al-mustamsikīn bi-‘urwatihim, al-mutamassikīn bi-wilāyatihim,
hold fast to their handle, cling to their authority,
الْمُؤْتَمِّينَ بِإمَامَتِهِمْ، الْمُسَلِّمِينَ لاَِمْرِهِمْ
al-mu’tammīn bi-imāmatihim, al-musallimīn li-amrihim
take their Imamate as their Imams, submit to their command,
الْمُجْتَهِدِيْنَ فِي طاعَتِهِمْ، الْمُنْتَظِرِيْنَ أَيَّامَهُمْ،
al-mujtahidīn fī ṭā‘atihim, al-muntaẓirīn ayyāmahum,
strive in their obedience, await their days,
الْمَادِّينَ إلَيْهِمْ أَعْيُنَهُمْ،
al-māddīn ilayhim a‘yunahum,
stretch forth their eyes towards them,
الصَّلَوَاتِ الْمُبَارَكَاتِ الزَّاكِيَاتِ النَّامِيَاتِ الغَادِيَاتِ، الرَّائِحاتِ.
aṣ-ṣalawāti al-mubārakāti az-zākiyāti an-nāmiyāti al-ghādiyāti, ar-rā’iḥāt.
with blessings, blessed, pure, increasing, going forth in the morning, and returning in the evening.
وَسَلِّمْ عَلَيْهِمْ وَعَلَى أَرْوَاحِهِمْ،
wa-sallim ‘alayhim wa-‘alā arwāḥihim,
And grant peace upon them and upon their souls,
وَاجْمَعْ عَلَى التَّقْوَى أَمْرَهُمْ،
wa-jma‘ ‘alā t-taqwā amrahum,
and gather their command upon fear of You,
وَأَصْلِحْ لَهُمْ شُؤُونَهُمْ،
wa-aṣliḥ lahum shu’ūnahum,
and mend their affairs for them,
وَتُبْ عَلَيْهِمْ
wa-tub ‘alayhim
and turn to them in forgiveness,
إنَّكَ أَنْتَ التَّوَّابُ الرَّحِيمُ وَخَيْرُ الْغَافِرِينَ،
innaka anta t-tawwābu r-raḥīmu wa-khayru l-ghāfirīn,
surely You are the Forgiving, the Merciful, and the best of the forgivers,
وَاجْعَلْنَا مَعَهُمْ فِي دَارِ السَّلاَمِ بِرَحْمَتِكَ يَا أَرْحَمَ الرَّاحِمِينَ.
wa-j‘alnā ma‘ahum fī dāri s-salām bi-raḥmatik yā arḥama r-rāḥimīn.
and place us with them in the Abode of Peace, by Your mercy, O Most Merciful of the merciful.
أللَّهُمَّ هَذَا يَوْمُ عَرَفَةَ،
allāhumma hādhā yawmu ‘arafah,
O God, this is the Day of ‘Arafah,
يَوْمٌ شَرَّفْتَهُ وَكَرَّمْتَهُ وَعَظَّمْتَهُ، نَشَرْتَ فِيهِ رَحْمَتَكَ،
yawmun sharraffahū wa-karramtahū wa-‘aẓẓamtah, nasharta fīhi raḥmatak,
a day You have honored, ennobled, and magnified, in which You have spread Your mercy,
وَمَنَنْتَ فِيهِ بِعَفْوِكَ وَأَجْزَلْتَ فِيهِ عَطِيَّتَكَ،
wa-mananta fīhi bi-‘afwik wa-ajzalta fīhi ‘aṭīyyatak,
and conferred therein Your pardon and made great therein Your gift,
وَتَفَضَّلْتَ بِهِ عَلَى عِبَادِكَ.
wa-tafaḍḍalta bihī ‘alā ‘ibādik.
and favored with it Your servants.
أللَّهُمَّ وَأَنَا عَبْدُكَ الَّذِي أَنْعَمْتَ عَلَيْهِ قَبْلَ خَلْقِكَ لَهُ، وَبَعْدَ خَلْقِكَ إيَّاهُ،
allāhumma wa-anā ‘abduka alladhī an‘amta ‘alayhi qabla khalqika lah, wa-ba‘da khalqika iyyāh,
O God, I am Your servant whom You blessed before Your creation of him, and after Your creation of him,
فَجَعَلْتَهُ مِمَّنْ هَدَيْتَهُ لِدِينِكَ،
fa-ja‘altahū mimman hadaytahū li-dīnik,
and You made him among those whom You guided to Your religion,
وَوَفَّقْتَهُ لِحَقِّكَ، وَعَصَمْتَهُ بِحَبْلِكَ،
wa-waffaqtahū li-ḥaqqik, wa-‘aṣamtahū bi-ḥablik,
and directed him to Your truth, and protected him with Your rope,
وَأَدْخَلْتَهُ فِيْ حِزْبِكَ، وَأَرْشَدْتَهُ لِمُوَالاَةِ أَوْليآئِكَ،
wa-adkhaltahū fī ḥizbik, wa-arshadtahū li-muwālāti awliyā’ik,
and admitted him into Your party, and guided him to the loyalty to Your friends,
وَمُعَادَاةِ أَعْدَائِكَ، ثُمَّ أَمَرْتَهُ فَلَمْ يَأْتَمِرْ،
wa-mu‘ādāti a‘dā’ik, thumma amartahū fa-lam ya’tamir,
and the enmity toward Your enemies, then You commanded him, but he did not comply,
وَزَجَرْتَهُ فَلَمْ يَنْزَجِرْ، وَنَهَيْتَهُ عَنْ مَعْصِيَتِكَ فَخَالَفَ أَمْرَكَ إلَى نَهْيِكَ،
wa-zajartahū fa-lam yanzajir, wa-nahaytahū ‘an ma‘ṣiyatik fa-khālafa amrak ilā nahyik,
and You restrained him, but he was not restrained, and You forbade him from disobeying You, but he contravened Your command for Your prohibition,
لاَ مُعَانَدَةً لَكَ وَلاَ اسْتِكْبَاراً عَلَيْكَ،
lā mu‘ānadatan lak wa-lā istikbāran ‘alayk,
not out of defiance to You nor arrogance toward You,
بَلْ دَعَاهُ هَوَاهُ إلَى مَا زَيَّلْتَهُ، وَإلَى مَا حَذَّرْتَهُ،
bal da‘āhu hawāhu ilā mā zayaltah, wa-ilā mā ḥadhdhartah,
Rather, his caprice called him to what You had estranged [from him], and to what You had warned him against,
وَأَعَانَهُ عَلَى ذالِكَ عَدُوُّكَ وَعَدُوُّهُ،
wa-a‘ānahū ‘alā dhālik ‘aduwwuk wa-‘aduwwuh,
and Your enemy and his enemy helped him in that,
فَأَقْدَمَ عَلَيْهِ عَارِفاً بِوَعِيْدِكَ، رَاجِياً لِعَفْوِكَ،
fa-aqdama ‘alayhi ‘ārifan bi-wa‘īdika, rājiyan li-‘afwik,
so he ventured upon it, knowing Your threat, hoping for Your pardon,
وَاثِقاً بِتَجَاوُزِكَ، وَكَانَ أَحَقَّ عِبَادِكَ ـ
wāthiqan bi-tajāwuzik, wa-kāna aḥaqqa ‘ibādik —
trusting in Your forbearance, and he was the most worthy of Your servants —
مَعَ مَا مَنَنْتَ عَلَيْهِ ـ أَلاَّ يَفْعَلَ،
ma‘a mā mananta ‘alayhi — allā yaf‘al,
despite what You bestowed upon him — not to do so,
وَهَا أَنَا ذَا بَيْنَ يَدَيْكَ صَاغِراً،
wa-hā anā dhā bayna yadayka ṣāghiran,
and here I am before You, humbled,
ذَلِيلاً، خَاضِعَاً، خَاشِعاً، خَائِفَاً،
dhalīlan, khāḍi‘an, khāshi‘an, khā’ifan,
abased, submissive, reverent, afraid,
مُعْتَرِفاً بِعَظِيم مِنَ الذُّنُوبِ تَحَمَّلْتُهُ،
mu‘tarifan bi-‘aẓīmin min adh-dhunūbi taḥammaltuh,
confessing a great one of the sins I have borne,
وَجَلِيْل مِنَ الْخَطَايَا اجْتَرَمْتُهُ،
wa-jalīlin min al-khaṭāyā ijtaramtuh,
and a serious one of the offenses I have committed,
مُسْتَجِيراً بِصَفْحِكَ، لائِذاً بِرَحْمَتِكَ،
mustajīran bi-ṣafḥik, lā’idhan bi-raḥmatik,
seeking refuge in Your overlooking, taking shelter in Your mercy,
مُوقِناً أَنَّهُ لاَ يُجِيرُنِي مِنْكَ مُجِيرٌ،
mūqinan annahū lā yujīrunī minka mujīr,
certain that no protector can protect me from You,
وَلاَ يَمْنَعُنِي مِنْكَ مَانِعٌ .
wa-lā yamna‘unī minka māni‘.
and no preventer can prevent me from You.
فَعُدْ عَلَيَّ بِمَا تَعُودُ بِهِ عَلَى مَنِ اقْتَرَفَ مِنْ تَغَمُّدِكَ،
fa-‘ud ‘alayya bi-mā ta‘ūdu bihī ‘alā mani iqtaraf min taghammudik,
So return to me with what You return to one who has committed offenses, from Your covering [of sins],
وَجُدْ عَلَيَّ بِمَا تَجُودُ بِهِ عَلَى مَنْ أَلْقَى بِيَدِهِ إلَيْكَ مِنْ عَفْوِكَ،
wa-jud ‘alayya bi-mā tajūdu bihī ‘alā man alqā bi-yadihī ilayk min ‘afwik,
and be generous toward me with what You are generous toward one who casts his hand to You, from Your pardon,
وَامْنُنْ عَلَيَّ بِمَا لاَ يَتَعَاظَمُكَ
wa-mnun ‘alayya bi-mā lā yata‘āẓamuk
and favor me with what is not too great for You
أَنْ تَمُنَّ بِهِ عَلَى مَنْ أَمَّلَكَ مِنْ غُفْرَانِكَ،
an tamunna bihī ‘alā man ammalak min ghufrānik,
to bestow upon one who has hoped in You, from Your forgiveness,
وَاجْعَلْ لِي فِي هَذَا الْيَوْمِ نَصِيباً أَنَالُ بِهِ حَظّاً مِنْ رِضْوَانِكَ،
wa-j‘al lī fī hādhā l-yawm naṣīban anālu bihī ḥaẓẓan min riḍwānik,
and appoint for me in this day a portion by which I attain a share of Your pleasure,
وَلاَ تَرُدَّنِي صِفْراً مِمَّا يَنْقَلِبُ بِهِ الْمُتَعَبِّدُونَ لَكَ مِنْ عِبَادِكَ،
wa-lā taruddanī ṣifran mimmā yanqalibu bihī l-muta‘abbidūna lak min ‘ibādik,
and do not turn me away empty from what Your worshipping servants return with,
وَإنِّي وَإنْ لَمْ أُقَدِّمْ مَا قَدَّمُوهُ مِنَ الصَّالِحَاتِ،
wa-innī wa-in lam uqaddim mā qaddamūhu min aṣ-ṣāliḥāt,
and though I have not presented what they have presented of good deeds,
فَقَد قَدَّمْتُ تَوْحِيدَكَ،
fa-qad qaddamtu tawḥīdak,
I have presented Your Oneness (Tawhīd),
وَنَفْيَ الاَضْدَادِ وَالاَنْدَادِ وَالاشْبَاهِ عَنْكَ،
wa-nafya al-aḍdād wa-l-andād wa-l-ashbāh ‘ank,
and the denial of contraries, equals, and likenesses for You,
وَأَتَيْتُكَ مِنَ الاَبْوَابِ الَّتِي أَمَرْتَ أَنْ تُؤْتى مِنْها،
wa-ataytuka min al-abwāb allatī amarta an tu’tā minhā,
and I came to You from the doors You commanded to be approached,
وَتَقَرَّبْتُ إلَيْكَ بِمَا لاَ يَقْرُبُ ،
wa-taqarrabtu ilayk bi-mā lā yaqrub,
and I sought nearness to You with that by which no one draws
أَحَدٌ مِنْكَ إلاَّ بِالتَّقَرُّبِ بِهِ
aḥadun minka illā bi-t-taqarrubi bihī
nearer to You except by seeking nearness with it,
ثُمَّ أَتْبَعْتُ ذلِكَ بِالاِنابَةِ إلَيْكَ،
thumma atba‘tu dhālik bi-l-inābati ilayk,
then I followed that with turning back to You (Inabah),
وَالتَّذَلُّلِ وَالاسْتِكَانَةِ لَكَ، وَحُسْنِ الظَّنِّ بِكَ، وَالثِّقَةِ بِمَا عِنْدَكَ،
wa-t-tadhallul wa-l-istikānati lak, wa-ḥusniẓ-ẓanni bik, wa-th-thiqati bi-mā ‘indak,
and humility and submissiveness to You, and good opinion of You, and trust in what is with You,
وَشَفَعْتُهُ بِرَجآئِكَ
wa-shaffa‘tuhū bi-rajā’ik
and I interceded for it with Your hope,
الَّذِي قَلَّ مَا يَخِيبُ عَلَيْهِ رَاجِيْكَ،
alladhī qalla mā yakhību ‘alayhi rājīk,
which seldom disappoints one who hopes in You,
وَسَأَلْتُكَ مَسْأَلَةَ الْحَقِيرِ الذّلِيلِ
wa-sa’altuka mas’alata l-ḥaqīri dh-dhalīl
and I asked You the request of the despised, abased
الْبَائِسِ الْفَقِيْرِ الْخَائِفِ الْمُسْتَجِيرِ،
al-bā’isi l-faqīri l-khā’ifi l-mustajīr,
wretched, poor, fearful, seeker of refuge,
وَمَعَ ذَلِكَ خِيفَةً وَتَضَرُّعاً وَتَعَوُّذاً وَتَلَوُّذاً،
wa-ma‘a dhālik khīfatan wa-taḍarru‘an wa-ta‘awwudhan wa-talawwudhan,
and in addition to that, with fear, supplication, seeking protection, and taking shelter,
لاَ مُسْتَطِيلاً بِتَكبُّرِ الْمُتَكَبِّرِينَ،
lā mustaṭīlan bi-takabburi l-mutakabbirīn,
not being presumptuous with the pride of the arrogant,
وَلاَ مُتَعَالِياً بِدالَّةِ الْمُطِيعِينَ،
wa-lā muta‘āliyan bi-dāllati l-muṭī‘īn,
nor high with the presumption of the obedient,
وَلاَ مُسْتَطِيلاً بِشَفَاعَةِ الشَّافِعِينَ،
wa-lā mustaṭīlan bi-shafā‘ati sh-shāfi‘īn,
nor emboldened by the intercession of the intercessors,
وَأَنَا بَعْدُ أَقَلُّ الاَقَلِّيْنَ، وَأَذَلُّ الاَذَلِّينَ،
wa-anā ba‘du aqallu l-aqallīn, wa-adhallu l-adhallīn,
and I am, still, the least of the least, and the most abased of the abased,
وَمِثْلُ الذَّرَّةِ أَوْ دُونَهَا.
wa-mithlu dh-dharrati aw dūnahā.
and like a speck, or less than it.
فَيَا مَنْ لَمْ يَعَاجِلِ الْمُسِيئِينَ، وَلاَ يَنْدَهُ الْمُتْرَفِينَ،
fa-yā man lam yu‘ājili l-musī’īn, wa-lā yandahu l-mutrafīn,
O You who does not hasten against the evil-doers, and does not expose the opulent,
وَيَا مَنْ يَمُنُّ بِإقَالَةِ الْعَاثِرِينَ، وَيَتَفَضَّلُ بإنْظَارِ الْخَاطِئِينَ،
wa-yā man yamunnu bi-iqālati l-‘āthirīn, wa-yatafaḍḍalu bi-inẓāri l-khāṭi’īn,
O You who favors by pardoning the stumblers, and bestows by granting respite to the sinners,
أَنَا الْمُسِيءُ الْمُعْتَرِفُ الْخَاطِئُ الْعَاثِرُ،
anā l-musī’u l-mu‘tarif al-khāṭi’u l-‘āthir,
I am the evil-doer, the confessor, the sinner, the stumbler,
أَنَا الَّذِيْ أَقْدَمَ عَلَيْكَ مُجْتَرِئاً،
anā alladhī aqdama ‘alayka mujtari’an,
I am the one who came forward to You, emboldened,
أَنَا الَّذِي عَصَاكَ مُتَعَمِّداً،
anā alladhī ‘aṣāk muta‘ammidan,
I am the one who disobeyed You intentionally,
أَنَا الَّذِي اسْتَخْفى مِنْ عِبَادِكَ وَبَارَزَكَ،
anā alladhī stakhfā min ‘ibādik wa-bārazak,
I am the one who hid from Your servants and confronted You openly,
أَنَا الَّذِي هَابَ عِبَادَكَ وَأَمِنَكَ
anā alladhī hāba ‘ibādak wa-aminak
I am the one who was afraid of Your servants and felt secure from You,
أَنَا الَّذِي لَمْ يَرْهَبْ سَطْوَتَكَ وَلَمْ يَخَفْ بَأْسَكَ
anā alladhī lam yarhab saṭwatak wa-lam yakhaf ba’sak
I am the one who did not fear Your might and did not dread Your punishment,
أَنَا الْجَانِي عَلَى نَفْسِهِ، أَنَا الْمُرْتَهَنُ بِبَلِيَّتِهِ،
anā l-jānī ‘alā nafsih, anā l-murtaḥanu bi-balīyyatih,
I am the one who wronged himself, I am the one pledged to his own tribulation,
الْقَلِيلُ الْحَيَاءِ، أَنَا الطَّوِيلُ الْعَنآءِ،
al-qalīlu l-ḥayā’, anā ṭ-ṭawīlu l-‘anā’.
the one with little shame, I am the one with long suffering.
بِحَقِّ مَنِ انْتَجَبْتَ مِنْ خَلْقِكَ،
bi-ḥaqqi mani ntajabta min khalqik,
By the right of those You chose from Your creation,
وَبِمَنِ اصْطَفَيْتَهُ لِنَفْسِكَ،
wa-bi-mani iṣṭafaytahū li-nafsik,
and by the one You selected for Your Self,
بِحَقِّ مَنِ اخْتَرْتَ مِنْ بَريَّتِكَ، وَمَنِ اجْتَبَيْتَ لِشَأْنِكَ،
bi-ḥaqqi mani khtarta min barīyyatik, wa-mani jtabayta li-sha’nik,
by the right of those You chose from Your creatures, and the one You selected for Your affair,
بِحَقِّ مَن وَصَلْتَ طَاعَتَهُ بِطَاعَتِكَ،
bi-ḥaqqi man waṣalta ṭā‘atahū bi-ṭā‘atik,
by the right of the one whose obedience You joined to Your obedience,
وَمَنْ جَعَلْتَ مَعْصِيَتَهُ كَمَعْصِيَتِكَ
wa-man ja‘alta ma‘ṣiyatahū ka-ma‘ṣiyatik
and the one whose disobedience You made like Your disobedience,
بِحَقِّ مَن قَرَنْتَ مُوَالاَتَهُ بِمُوالاتِكَ،
bi-ḥaqqi man qaranta muwālāatahū bi-muwālātik,
by the right of the one whose loyalty You coupled with Your loyalty,
وَمَنْ نُطْتَ مُعَادَاتَهُ بِمُعَادَاتِكَ.
wa-man nuṭta mu‘ādātahū bi-mu‘ādātik.
and the one whose enmity You tied to Your enmity.
تَغَمَّدْنِي فِي يَوْمِيَ هَذَا بِمَا تَتَغَمَّدُ بِهِ مَنْ جَارَ إلَيْكَ مُتَنَصِّلاً،
taghammadnī fī yawmiya hādhā bi-mā tataghammadu bihī man jāra ilayk mutanaṣṣilan,
Cover me in this day of mine with what You cover one who sought refuge with You, seeking to shed [his sins],
وَعَاذَ بِاسْتِغْفَارِكَ تَائِباً،
wa-‘ādha bi-stighfārika tā’iban,
and sought shelter in Your forgiveness, repenting,
وَتَوَلَّنِي بِمَا تَتَوَلَّى بِهِ أَهْلَ طَاعَتِكَ،
wa-tawallanī bi-mā tatawallā bihī ahla ṭā‘atik,
and take charge of me with what You take charge of the people of Your obedience,
وَالزُّلْفَى لَدَيْكَ، وَالْمَكَانَةِ مِنْكَ،
wa-z-zulfā ladayk, wa-l-makānati mink,
and the proximity with You, and the high rank from You,
وَتَوَحَّدْنِي بِمَا تَتَوَحَّدُ بِهِ مَنْ وَفى بِعَهْدِكَ،
wa-tawaḥḥadnī bi-mā tatawaḥḥadu bihī man wafā bi-‘ahdik,
and make me singular with what You make singular one who fulfilled his covenant with You,
وَأَتْعَبَ نَفْسَهُ فِيْ ذَاتِكَ، وَأَجْهَدَهَا فِي مَرْضَاتِكَ،
wa-at‘aba nafsahū fī dhātik, wa-ajhadahā fī marḍātik,
and exhausted himself for Your essence, and exerted it in seeking Your pleasure,
وَلاَ تُؤَاخِذْنِي بِتَفْرِيطِيْ فِي جَنْبِكَ،
wa-lā tu’ākhidhnī bi-tafrīṭī fī janbik,
and do not take me to task for my negligence towards You,
وَتَعَدِّي طَوْرِيْ فِي حُدودِكَ، وَمُجَاوَزَةِ أَحْكَامِكَ.
wa-ta‘addī ṭawrī fī ḥudūdik, wa-mujāwazati aḥkāmik.
and my overstepping my bounds in Your limits, and my transgression of Your judgments.
وَلاَ تَسْتَدْرِجْنِي بِإمْلائِكَ لِي
wa-lā tastadrijnī bi-imlā’ik lī
And do not lead me astray by granting me respite
اسْتِدْرَاجَ مَنْ مَنَعَنِي خَيْرَ مَا عِنْدَهُ،
istidrāja man mana‘anī khayra mā ‘indah,
the way You lead astray one who withheld the best of what he had from me,
وَلَمْ يَشْرَكْكَ فِي حُلُولِ نِعْمَتِهِ بِي،
wa-lam yushrikka fī ḥulūli ni‘matihī bī,
and did not associate You in the descent of his blessing upon me,
وَنَبِّهْنِي مِنْ رَقْدَةِ الْغَافِلِينَ،
wa-nabbihnī min raqdat-i l-ghāfilīn,
and awaken me from the slumber of the heedless,
وَسِنَةِ الْمُسْرِفِينَ، وَنَعْسَةِ الْمَخْذُولِينَ.
wa-sinati l-musrifīn, wa-na‘sati l-makhdhūlīn.
and the drowsiness of the extravagant, and the slumber of the forsaken.
وَخُذْ بِقَلْبِي إلَى مَا اسْتَعْمَلْتَ بِهِ القَانِتِيْنَ،
wa-khudh bi-qalbī ilā mā sta‘malta bihī l-qānitīn,
And take my heart to what You employed the devout to do,
وَاسْتَعْبَدْتَ بِهِ الْمُتَعَبِّدِينَ، وَاسْتَنْقَذْتَ بِهِ الْمُتَهَاوِنِينَ،
wa-sta‘badta bihī l-muta‘abbidīn, wa-stanqadhta bihī l-mutahāwinīn,
and by which You enslaved the worshippers, and by which You rescued the careless,
وَأَعِذْنِي مِمَّا يُبَاعِدُنِي عَنْكَ،
wa-a‘idhnī mimmā yubā‘idunī ‘ank,
and protect me from what distances me from You,
وَيَحُولُ بَيْنِي وَبَيْنَ حَظِّي مِنْكَ،
wa-yaḥūlu baynī wa-bayna ḥaẓẓī mink,
and intervenes between me and my portion from You,
وَيَصُدُّنِي عَمَّا أُحَاوِلُ لَدَيْكَ.
wa-yaṣuddunī ‘ammā uḥāwilu ladayk.
and prevents me from what I seek near You.
وَسَهِّلْ لِي مَسْلَكَ الْخَيْرَاتِ إلَيْكَ،
wa-sahhil lī maslaka l-khayrāt ilayk,
And make easy for me the path of good deeds to You,
وَالْمُسَابَقَةِ إلَيْهَا مِنْ حَيْثُ أَمَرْتَ،
wa-l-musābaqati ilayhā min ḥaythu amart,
and the race toward them from where You commanded,
وَالْمُشَاحَّةَ فِيهَا عَلَى مَا أَرَدْتَ.
wa-l-mushāḥḥata fīhā ‘alā mā aradt.
and the intense pursuit of them according to what You willed.
وَلاَ تَمْحَقْنِي فِيمَنْ تَمْحَقُ مِنَ الْمُسْتَخِفِّينَ بِمَا أَوْعَدْتَ،
wa-lā tamḥaqnī fī-man tamḥaqu min al-mustakhiffīn bi-mā aw‘adt,
And do not annihilate me among those You annihilate of those who take lightly what You have promised,
وَلاَ تُهْلِكْنِي مَعَ مَنْ تُهْلِكُ مِنَ الْمُتَعَرِّضِينَ لِمَقْتِكَ،
wa-lā tuhliknī ma‘a man tuhliku min al-muta‘arriḍīn li-maqtik,
and do not destroy me with those You destroy of those who expose themselves to Your wrath,
وَلاَ تُتَبِّرْني فِيمَنْ تُتَبِّرُ مِنَ الْمُنْحَرِفِينَ عَنْ سُبُلِكَ.
wa-lā tutabbirnī fī-man tutabbiru min al-munḥarifīn ‘an subulik.
and do not destroy me among those You destroy of those who deviate from Your paths.
وَنَجِّنِيْ مِنْ غَمَرَاتِ الْفِتْنَةِ،
wa-najjinī min ghamarāti l-fitnah,
And rescue me from the floods of temptation,
وَخَلِّصْنِي مِنْ لَهَوَاتِ الْبَلْوى،
wa-khalliṣnī min lahawāti l-balwā,
and deliver me from the raging depths of tribulation,
وَأَجِرْنِي مِنْ أَخْذِ الاِمْلاءِ،
wa-ajirnī min akhdhi l-imlā’,
and grant me refuge from the grasp of [Your] respite,
وَحُلْ بَيْنِي وَبَيْنَ عَدُوٍّ يُضِلُّنِي،
wa-ḥul baynī wa-bayna ‘aduwwin yuḍillunī,
and intervene between me and an enemy who misguides me,
وَهَوىً يُوبِقُنِي، وَمَنْقَصَة تَرْهَقُنِي.
wa-hawān yūbiqunī, wa-manqaṣatin tarhaqunī.
and a caprice that destroys me, and a defect that afflicts me.
وَلاَ تُعْرِضْ عَنِّي إعْرَاضَ مَنْ لاَ تَرْضَى عَنْهُ بَعْدَ غَضَبِكَ،
wa-lā tu‘riḍ ‘annī i‘rāḍa man lā tarḍā ‘anhu ba‘da ghaḍabik,
And do not turn away from me the turning away of one with whom You are not pleased after Your anger,
وَلاَ تُؤْيِسْنِي مِنَ الامَلِ فِيكَ، فَيَغْلِبَ عَلَيَّ الْقُنُوطُ مِنْ رَحْمَتِكَ،
wa-lā tu’yisnī min al-amal fīk, fa-yaghliba ‘alayya l-qunūṭu min raḥmatik,
and do not make me despair of hope in You, lest despair of Your mercy overcome me,
وَلاَ تَمْنَحْنِي بِمَا لاَ طَاقَةَ لِيْ بِهِ،
wa-lā tamnaḥnī bi-mā lā ṭāqata lī bih,
and do not entrust me with what I have no strength for,
فَتَبْهَظَنِي مِمَّا تُحَمِّلُنِيهِ مِنْ فَضْلِ مَحَبَّتِكَ،
fa-tabhaẓanī mimmā tuḥammilunīhi min faḍli maḥabbatik,
lest I be overburdened by what You lay upon me of the merit of Your love,
وَلاَ تُرْسِلْنِي مِنْ يَدِكَ إرْسَالَ مَنْ لاَ خَيْرَ فِيهِ،
wa-lā tursilnī min yadik irsāla man lā khayra fīh,
and do not let me go from Your hand the way You let go of one in whom there is no good,
وَلاَ حَاجَةَ بِكَ إلَيْهِ، وَلاَ إنابَةَ لَهُ،
wa-lā ḥājata bik ilayh, wa-lā inābah lah,
and no need for him by You, and no returning for him,
وَلاَ تَرْمِ بِيَ رَمْيَ مَنْ سَقَطَ مِنْ عَيْنِ رِعَايَتِكَ،
wa-lā tarmi biya ramya man saqaṭa min ‘ayni ri‘āyatik,
and do not cast me the casting of one who has fallen from the eye of Your care,
وَمَنِ اشْتَمَلَ عَلَيْهِ الْخِزْيُ مِنْ عِنْدِكَ،
wa-mani shtamala ‘alayhi l-khizyu min ‘indik,
and one whom disgrace from Your presence has encompassed,
بَلْ خُذْ بِيَدِيْ مِنْ سَقْطَةِ الْمُتَرَدِّدِينَ،
bal khudh bi-yadī min saqṭati l-mutaraddidīn,
but take my hand from the fall of the waverers,
وَوَهْلَةِ الْمُتَعَسِّفِيْنَ، وَزَلّةِ الْمَغْرُورِينَ، وَوَرْطَةِ الْهَالِكِينَ.
wa-wahlati l-muta‘assifīn, wa-zallati l-maghrūrīn, wa-warṭati l-hālikīn.
and the terror of the oppressors, and the slip of the deceived, and the pit of the perished.
وَعَافِنِي مِمَّا ابْتَلَيْتَ بِهِ طَبَقَاتِ عَبِيدِكَ وَإمآئِكَ،
wa-‘āfinī mimmā btlayta bihī ṭabaqāt-i ‘abīdika wa-imā’ik,
And grant me well-being from what You have afflicted the classes of Your male and female servants with,
وَبَلِّغْنِي مَبَالِغَ مَنْ عُنِيتَ بِهِ، وَأَنْعَمْتَ عَلَيْهِ، وَرَضِيتَ عَنْهُ،
wa-ballighnī mabāligha man ‘unīta bih, wa-an‘amta ‘alayh, wa-raḍīta ‘anh,
and make me reach the levels of one whom You cared for, and blessed, and were pleased with,
فَأَعَشْتَهُ حَمِيداً، وَتَوَفَّيْتَهُ سَعِيداً،
fa-a‘ashtahū ḥamīdā, wa-tawaffaytahū sa‘īdā,
so You let him live praiseworthy, and caused him to die happy,
وَطَوِّقْنِي طَوْقَ الاِقْلاَعِ عَمَّا يُحْبِطُ الْحَسَنَاتِ،
wa-ṭawwiqnī ṭawqa l-iqlā‘i ‘ammā yuḥbiṭu l-ḥasanāt,
and put around my neck the collar of refraining from what frustrates good deeds,
وَيَذْهَبُ بِالْبَرَكَاتِ،
wa-yadhhabu bi-l-barakāt,
and takes away blessings,
وَأَشْعِرْ قَلْبِيَ الازْدِجَارَ عَنْ قَبَائِحِ السَّيِّئاتِ،
wa-ash‘ir qalbīy al-izdijāra ‘an qabā’iḥi s-sayyi’āt,
and make my heart feel the repulsion from the ugly deeds of evil,
وَفَوَاضِحِ الْحَوْبَاتِ،
wa-fawāḍiḥi l-ḥawbāt,
and the glaring disgrace of grave sins,
وَلاَ تَشْغَلْنِي بِمَا لاَ أُدْرِكُهُ إلاَّ بِكَ عَمَّا لا َ يُرْضِيْكَ عَنِّي غَيْرُهُ،
wa-lā tashghalnī bi-mā lā udrikuhū illā bik ‘ammā lā yurḍīka ‘annī ghayruh,
and do not distract me with what I cannot attain except by You, from what none other than it satisfies You with me,
وَانْزَعْ مِنْ قَلْبِي حُبَّ دُنْيَا دَنِيَّة تَنْهى عَمَّا عِنْدَكَ،
wa-nza‘ min qalbī ḥubba dunyā danīyah tanhā ‘ammā ‘indak,
and remove from my heart the love of a despicable world that prohibits [one from] what is with You,
وَتَصُدُّ عَنِ ابْتِغَآءِ الْوَسِيلَةِ إلَيْكَ، وَتُذْهِلُ عَنِ التَّقَرُبِ مِنْكَ،
wa-taṣuddu ‘ani btighā’i l-wasīlati ilayk, wa-tudhhilu ‘an it-taqarrubi mink,
and prevents [one] from seeking the means to You, and makes [one] forget drawing near to You,
وَزَيِّنَ لِيَ التَّفَرُّدَ بِمُنَاجَاتِكَ بِاللَّيْلِ وَالنَّهَارِ،
wa-zayyin liya t-tafarruda bi-munājātik bi-l-layli wa-n-nahār,
and adorn for me being alone in private supplication to You by night and by day,
وَهَبْ لِي عِصْمَةً تُدْنِينِي مِنْ خَشْيَتِكَ،
wa-hab lī ‘iṣmatan tudnīnī min khashyatik,
and grant me an infallibility that brings me near to Your fear,
وَتَقْطَعُنِي عَنْ رُكُوبِ مَحَارِمكَ،
wa-taqṭa‘unī ‘an rukūbi maḥārimik,
and severs me from committing Your unlawful acts,
وَتَفُكُّنِي مِنْ أَسْرِ الْعَظَائِمِ،
wa-tafukkunī min asri l-‘aẓā’im,
and releases me from the bondage of the grave [sins],
وَهَبْ لِي التَّطْهِيرَ مِنْ دَنَسِ الْعِصْيَانِ،
wa-hab lī t-taṭhīra min danasi l-‘iṣyān,
and grant me purification from the filth of disobedience,
وَأَذْهِبْ عَنِّي دَرَنَ الْخَطَايَا،
wa-adhhib ‘annī darana l-khaṭāyā,
and remove from me the dirt of offenses,
وَسَرْبِلْنِي بِسِرْبالِ عَافِيَتِكَ،
wa-sarbilnī bi-sirbāli ‘āfiyatik,
and clothe me with the garment of Your well-being,
وَرَدِّنِي رِدَآءَ مُعَافاتِكَ،
wa-raddinī ridā’a mu‘āfātik,
and dress me with the cloak of Your health,
وَجَلِّلْنِي سَوابِغَ نَعْمَائِكَ،
wa-jallilnī sawābigha na‘mā’ik,
and cover me with the full measure of Your blessings,
وَظَاهِرْ لَدَيَّ فَضْلَكَ وَطَوْلَكَ،
wa-ẓāhir ladayya faḍlak wa-ṭawlak,
and make manifest with me Your favor and Your bounty,
وَأَيْدْنِي بِتَوْفِيقِكَ وَتَسْدِيْدِكَ،
wa-ayyidnī bi-tawfīqik wa-tasdīdika,
and support me with Your granting of success and Your guidance,
وَأَعِنِّي عَلَى صَالِحِ النِّيَّةِ وَمَرْضِيِّ الْقَوْلِ وَمُسْتَحْسَنِ الْعَمَلِ.
wa-a‘innī ‘alā ṣāliḥi n-niyyati wa-marḍīyyi l-qawl wa-mustaḥsani l-‘amal.
and help me with sound intention, pleasing speech, and commendable action.
وَلاَ تَكِلْنِي إلَى حَوْلِي وَقُوَّتِي دُونَ حَوْلِكَ وَقُوَّتِكَ،
wa-lā takilnī ilā ḥawlī wa-quwwatī dūna ḥawlika wa-quwwatik,
And do not entrust me to my own ability and strength apart from Your ability and Your strength,
وَلاَ تَخْزِنِي يَوْمَ تَبْعَثُنِي لِلِقائِكَ،
wa-lā takhzinī yawma tab‘athunī li-liqā’ik,
and do not disgrace me on the Day You raise me up for Your meeting,
وَلاَ تَفْضَحْنِي بَيْنَ يَدَيْ أَوْلِياِئكَ،
wa-lā tafḍaḥnī bayna yaday awliyā’ik,
and do not expose me before Your friends,
وَلاَ تُنْسِنِي ذِكْرَكَ، وَلاَ تُذْهِبْ عَنِّي شُكْرَكَ،
wa-lā tunsīnī dhikrak, wa-lā tudhhib ‘annī shukrak,
and do not make me forget Your remembrance, and do not take away my gratitude to You,
بَلْ أَلْزِمْنِيهِ فِي أَحْوَالِ السَّهْوِ عِنْدَ غَفَلاَتِ الْجَاهِلِينَ لاِلائِكَ،
bal alzimnīhi fī aḥwāli s-sahw ‘inda ghafalāti l-jāhilīna li-ālā’ik,
but rather, make it incumbent upon me in states of inattention, when the ignorant are heedless of Your bounties,
وَأَوْزِعْنِي أَنْ أُثْنِيَ بِمَا أَوْلَيْتَنِيهِ،
wa-awzi‘nī an uthniya bi-mā awlaytanīh,
and inspire me to praise You for what You have bestowed upon me,
وَأَعْتَرِفِ بِمَا أَسْدَيْتَهُ إلَيَّ،
wa-a‘tarif bi-mā asdaytahū ilayy,
and to confess what You have conferred upon me,
وَاجْعَلْ رَغْبَتِي إلَيْكَ فَوْقَ رَغْبَةِ الْرَّاغِبِينَ،
wa-j‘al raghbatī ilayk fawqa raghbati r-rāghibīn,
and make my desire for You above the desire of the desirous,
وَحَمْدِي إيَّاكَ فَوْقَ حَمْدِ الْحَامِدِيْنَ،
wa-ḥamdī iyyāk fawqa ḥamdi l-ḥāmidīn,
and my praise of You above the praise of the praisers,
وَلاَ تَخْذُلْنِي عِنْدَ فَاقَتِي إلَيْكَ،
wa-lā takhdhulnī ‘inda fāqatī ilayk,
and do not forsake me at the time of my destitution before You,
وَلاَ تُهْلِكْنِي بِمَا أَسْدَيْتُهُ إلَيْكَ،
wa-lā tuhliknī bi-mā asdaytuhū ilayk,
and do not destroy me with what I have done to You,
وَلاَ تَجْبَهْنِي بِمَا جَبَهْتَ بِهِ لْمَعَانِدِينَ لَكَ،
wa-lā tajbahnī bi-mā jabahta bihī l-mu‘ānidīn lak,
and do not confront me with what You confront the obstinate toward You,
فَإنِّي لَكَ مُسَلِّمٌ، أَعْلَمُ أَنَّ الْحُجَّةَ لَكَ،
fa-innī lak musallimun, a‘lamu anna l-ḥujjat lak,
for I am submissive to You, I know that the argument is Yours,
وَأَنَّكَ أَوْلَى بِالْفَضْلِ، وَأَعْوَدُ بِالاحْسَانِ،
wa-annaka awlā bi-l-faḍl, wa-a‘wadu bi-l-iḥsān,
and that You are more worthy of favor, and more accustomed to good deeds,
وَأَهْلُ التَّقْوَى، وَأَهْلُ الْمَغْفِرَةِ،
wa-ahlu t-taqwā, wa-ahlu l-maghfirah,
and the possessor of fear, and the possessor of forgiveness,
وَأَنَّكَ بِأَنْ تَعْفُوَ أَوْلَى مِنْكَ بِأَنْ تُعَاقِبَ،
wa-annaka bi-an ta‘fuwa awlā minka bi-an tu‘āqib,
and that You are more worthy of pardoning than You are of punishing,
وَأَنَّكَ بِأَنْ تَسْتُرَ أَقْرَبُ مِنْكَ إلَى أنْ تَشْهَرَ،
wa-annaka bi-an tastura aqrabu minka ilā an tashhar,
and that You are nearer to covering than You are to exposing,
فَأَحْيِنِي حَياةً طَيِّبَةً تَنْتَظِمُ بِما أُرِيدُ
fa-aḥyinī ḥayātan ṭayyibatan tantaẓimu bi-mā urīd
So cause me to live a good life that is arranged by what I desire,
وَتَبْلُغُ مَا أُحِبُّ مِنْ حَيْثُ لاَ آتِي مَا تَكْرَهُ
wa-tablughu mā uḥibb min ḥaythu lā ātī mā takrah
and reaches what I love, such that I do not commit what You dislike,
وَلاَ أَرْتَكِبُ مَا نَهَيْتَ عَنْهُ،
wa-lā artakibu mā nahayta ‘anh,
and do not engage in what You forbade,
وَأَمِتْنِي مِيْتَةَ مَنْ يَسْعَى نُورُهُ بَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ، وَعَنْ يِمِيِنهِ،
wa-amitnī mītata man yas‘ā nūruhū bayna yadayhi, wa-‘an yamīnih,
and cause me to die the death of one whose light strives before him and on his right,
وَذَلِّلْنِي بَيْنَ يَدَيْكَ، وَأَعِزَّنِيْ عِنْدَ خَلْقِكَ،
wa-dhallilnī bayna yadayk, wa-a‘izzanī ‘inda khalqik,
and abase me before You, and honor me with Your creation,
وَضَعْنِي إذَا خَلَوْتُ بِكَ، وَارْفَعْنِي بَيْنَ عِبادِكَ،
wa-ḍa‘nī idhā khalaftu bik, wa-rfa‘nī bayna ‘ibādik,
and abate me when I am alone with You, and raise me among Your servants,
وَأَغْنِنِي عَمَّنْ هُوَ غَنِيٌّ عَنِّي،
wa-aghninī ‘amman huwa ghaniyyun ‘annī,
and make me needless of one who is needless of me,
وَزِدْنِي إلَيْكَ فَاقَةً وَفَقْراً،
wa-zidnī ilayk fāqatan wa-faqrā,
and increase me in destitution and poverty toward You,
وَأَعِذْنِي مِنْ شَمَاتَةِ الاَعْدَاءِ،
wa-a‘idhnī min shamātati l-a‘dā’,
and protect me from the gloating of enemies,
وَمِنْ حُلُولِ الْبَلاءِ، وَمِنَ الذُّلِّ وَالْعَنَآءِ،
wa-min ḥulūli l-balā’, wa-min adh-dhull wa-l-‘anā’.
and from the descent of tribulation, and from humiliation and suffering.
تَغَمَّدني فِيمَا اطَّلَعْتَ عَلَيْهِ مِنِّي
taghammadnī fīmā iṭṭala‘ta ‘alayhi minnī
Cover me in what You have become aware of from me,
بِمَا يَتَغَمَّدُ بِهِ الْقَادِرُ عَلَى الْبَطْشِ لَوْلاَ حِلْمُهُ،
bi-mā yataghammadu bihī l-qādiru ‘alā l-baṭsh lawlā ḥilmuh,
with what the one capable of striking covers, were it not for his forbearance,
وَالاخِذُ عَلَى الْجَرِيرَةِ لَوْلاَ أَناتُهُ،
wa-l-ākhidhu ‘alā l-jarīrati lawlā anātuh,
and the one who seizes for the offense, were it not for his deliberation,
وَإذَا أَرَدْتَ بِقَوْم فِتْنَةً أَوْ سُوءً فَنَجِّنِي مِنْهَا لِواذاً بِكَ،
wa-idhā aradta bi-qawmin fitnatan aw sū’an fa-najjinī minhā liwādhan bik,
and when You intend a trial or evil for a people, rescue me from it by taking shelter in You,
وَإذْ لَمْ تُقِمْنِي مَقَامَ فَضِيحَة فِي دُنْيَاكَ فَلاَ تُقِمْنِي مِثْلَهُ فِيْ آخِرَتِكَ،
wa-idh lam tuqimnī maqāma faḍīḥah fī dunyāk fa-lā tuqimnī mithlahū fī ākhiratik,
and since You have not placed me in a situation of disgrace in Your world, do not place me in its like in Your Hereafter,
وَاشْفَعْ لِي أَوَائِلَ مِنَنِكَ بِأَوَاخِرِهَا،
wa-shfa‘ lī awā’ila minanik bi-awākhirihā,
and intercede for me with the beginnings of Your bounties with their ends,
وَقَدِيمَ فَوَائِدِكَ بِحَوَادِثِهَا.
wa-qadīma fawā’idik bi-ḥawādithihā.
and Your ancient benefits with their new occurrences.
وَلاَ تَمْدُدْ لِيَ مَدّاً يَقْسُو مَعَهُ قَلْبِي،
wa-lā tamdud liya maddan yaqsū ma‘ahū qalbī,
And do not extend a term for me with which my heart hardens,
وَلاَ تَقْرَعْنِي قَارِعَةً يَذْهَبُ لَها بَهَآئِي،
wa-lā taqra‘nī qāri‘atan yadhhabu lahā bahā’ī,
and do not strike me with a sudden blow by which my splendor vanishes,
وَلاَ تَسُمْنِي خَسِيْسَةً يَصْغُرُ لَهَا قَدْرِي،
wa-lā tasumnī khasīsatan yaṣghuru lahā qadrī,
and do not brand me with a meanness by which my worth is belittled,
وَلاَ نَقِيصَةً يُجْهَلُ مِنْ أَجْلِهَا مَكَانِي،
wa-lā naqīṣatan yujhalu min ajlihā makānī,
and a defect because of which my position is unknown,
وَلاَ تَرُعْنِي رَوْعَةً أُبْلِسُ بِها، وَلاَ خِيْفةً أوجِسُ دُونَهَا.
wa-lā taru‘nī raw‘atan ublisu bihā, wa-lā khīfatan awjisu dūnahā.
and do not terrify me with a terror by which I despair, nor a fear beyond which I dread.
اجْعَلْ هَيْبَتِي في وَعِيدِكَ،
ij‘al haybatī fī wa‘īdik,
Make my awe [directed] at Your threat,
وَحَذَرِي مِنْ إعْذارِكَ وَإنْذَارِكَ،
wa-ḥadharī min i‘dhārik wa-inḍārik,
and my caution [directed] at Your warning and Your cautioning,
وَرَهْبَتِي عِنْدَ تِلاَوَةِ آياتِكَ،
wa-rahbatī ‘inda tilāwati āyātik,
and my dread [directed] at the recitation of Your verses,
وَاعْمُرْ لَيْلِي بِإيقَاظِي فِيهِ لِعِبَادَتِكَ،
wa-mur laylī bi-īqāẓī fīhi li-‘ibādatik,
and populate my night by my staying awake in it for Your worship,
وَتَفَرُّدِي بِالتَّهَجُّدِ لَكَ، وَتَجَرُّدِي بِسُكُونِي إلَيْكَ،
wa-tafarrudī bi-t-tahajjudi lak, wa-tajarrudī bi-sukūnī ilayk,
and my being alone in night vigil for You, and my being stripped bare in my reliance upon You,
وَإنْزَالِ حَوَائِجِي بِكَ،
wa-inzāli ḥawā’ijī bik,
and the descent of my needs upon You,
وَمُنَازَلَتِي إيَّاكَ فِي فَكَاكِ رَقَبَتِي مِنْ نَارِكَ،
wa-munāzalatī iyyāk fī fakāki raqabatī min nārik,
and my contending with You for the freeing of my neck from Your Fire,
وَإجَارَتِي مِمَّا فِيهِ أَهْلُهَا مِنْ عَذَابِكَ.
wa-ijāratī mimmā fīhi ahluhā min ‘adhābik.
and my seeking refuge from what its people are in of Your punishment.
وَلاَ تَذَرْنِي فِي طُغْيَانِي عَامِهاً،
wa-lā tadharnī fī ṭughyānī ‘āmihā,
And do not leave me wandering aimlessly in my transgression,
وَلاَ فِي غَمْرَتِي سَاهِياً حَتَّى حِين،
wa-lā fī ghamratī sāhiyan ḥattā ḥīn,
and not oblivious in my heedlessness until a time,
وَلاَ تَجْعَلْنِي عِظَةً لِمَنِ اتَّعَظَ، وَلاَ نَكَالاً لِمَنِ اعْتَبَرَ،
wa-lā taj‘alnī ‘iẓatan li-mani itta‘aẓ, wa-lā nakālan li-mani i‘tabar,
and do not make me a lesson for one who takes heed, nor a punishment for one who considers,
وَلاَ فِتْنَةً لِمَن نَظَرَ، وَلاَ تَمْكُرْ بِيَ فِيمَنْ تَمْكُرُ بِهِ،
wa-lā fitnatan li-man naẓar, wa-lā tamkur biya fī-man tamkuru bih,
nor a temptation for one who looks, and do not plot against me among those You plot against,
وَلاَ تَسْتَبْدِلْ بِيَ غَيْرِي، وَلاَ تُغَيِّرْ لِيْ إسْماً،
wa-lā tastabdil biya ghayrī, wa-lā tughayyir lī ismā,
and do not replace me with another, and do not change my name,
وَلاَ تُبدِّلْ لِي جِسْماً، وَلاَ تَتَّخِذْنِي هُزُوَاً لِخَلْقِكَ،
wa-lā tubaddil lī jismā, wa-lā tattakhidhnī huzuwan li-khalqik,
and do not substitute my body, and do not take me as a mockery for Your creation,
وَلاَ سُخْرِيّاً لَكَ، وَلاَ تَبَعاً إلاَّ لِمَرْضَاتِكَ،
wa-lā sukhriyyan lak, wa-lā taba‘an illā li-marḍātik,
and not a laughingstock for You, and not a follower except for Your pleasure,
وَلاَ مُمْتَهَناً إلاَّ بِالانْتِقَامِ لَكَ، وَأَوْجِدْنِي بَرْدَ عَفْوِكَ،
wa-lā mumtahanan illā bi-l-intiqām lak, wa-awjidnī barda ‘afwik,
and not disgraced except by taking revenge for You, and let me find the coolness of Your pardon,
وَحَلاَوَةَ رَحْمَتِكَ وَرَوْحِكَ وَرَيْحَانِكَ وَجَنَّةِ نَعِيْمِكَ،
wa-ḥalāwata raḥmatik wa-rawḥik wa-rayḥānik wa-jannati na‘īmik,
and the sweetness of Your mercy and Your gentle breeze and Your sweet basil and Your Garden of Delight,
وَأَذِقْنِي طَعْمَ الْفَرَاغِ لِمَا تُحِبُّ بِسَعَة مِنْ سَعَتِكَ،
wa-adhiqnī ṭa‘ma l-farāghi li-mā tuḥibb bi-sa‘atin min sa‘atik,
and let me taste the savor of dedication to what You love, with a vastness from Your vastness,
وَالاجْتِهَادِ فِيمَا يُزْلِفُ لَدَيْكَ وَعِنْدَك،
wa-l-ij tihād fīmā yuzlifu ladayk wa-‘indak,
and the striving in what brings near to You and in Your Presence,
وَأَتْحِفْنِي بِتُحْفَة مِنْ تُحَفَاتِكَ،
wa-atḥifnī bi-tuḥfatin min tuḥafātik,
and present me with a gift from Your gifts,
وَاجْعَلْ تِجَارَتِي رَابِحَةً، وَكَرَّتِي غَيْرَ خَاسِرَة،
wa-j‘al tijāratī rābiḥah, wa-karratī ghayra khāsirah,
and make my trade profitable, and my return not losing,
وَأَخِفْنِي مَقَامَكَ، وَشَوِّقْنِي لِقاءَكَ،
wa-akhifnī maqāmak, wa-shawwiqnī li-liqā’ak,
and make me fear Your Station, and make me yearn for Your meeting.
وَتُبْ عَلَيَّ تَوْبَةً نَصُوحاً لاَ تُبْقِ مَعَهَا ذُنُوباً صِغِيرَةً وَلا كَبِيرَةً،
wa-tub ‘alayya tawbatan naṣūḥan lā tubqi ma‘ahā dhunūban ṣaghīratan wa-lā kabīratan,
And accept my sincere repentance (Tawbat Nasūḥ), leaving no sins with it, neither small nor great,
وَلاَ تَذَرْ مَعَهَا عَلاَنِيَةً وَلاَ سَرِيرَةً،
wa-lā tadhar ma‘ahā ‘alāniyatan wa-lā sarīratan,
and leaving with it neither what is open nor what is secret,
وَانْزَعِ الْغِلَّ مِنْ صَدْرِي لِلْمُؤْمِنِينَ،
wa-nza‘ al-ghilla min ṣadrī li-l-mu’minīn,
and remove the malice (al-ghill) from my breast toward the believers,
وَاعْطِفْ بِقَلْبِي عَلَى الْخَاشِعِيْنَ،
wa-‘ṭif bi-qalbī ‘alā l-khāshi‘īn,
and incline my heart toward the reverent (al-khāshi‘īn),
وَكُنْ لِي كَمَا تَكُونُ لِلصَّالِحِينَ،
wa-kun lī kamā takūnu li-ṣ-ṣāliḥīn,
and be for me as You are for the righteous (aṣ-ṣāliḥīn),
وَحَلِّنِي حِلْيَةَ الْمُتَّقِينَ،
wa-ḥallinī ḥilyata l-muttaqīn,
and adorn me with the ornament of the God-fearing (al-muttaqīn),
وَاجْعَلْ لِيَ لِسَانَ صِدْق فِي الْغَابِرِيْنَ،
wa-j‘al liya lisāna ṣidqin fī l-ghābirīn,
and appoint for me a truthful tongue among those who remain (al-ghābirīn) [i.e., those who come later],
وَذِكْراً نامِياً فِي الاخِرِينَ، وَوَافِ بِيَ عَرْصَةَ الاَوَّلِينَ،
wa-dhikran nāmiyan fī l-ākhirīn, wa-wāfi biya ‘arṣata l-awwalīn,
and a growing remembrance among the latter generations (al-ākhirīn), and bring me to the plain of the former generations (al-awwalīn),
وَتَمِّمْ Sُبُوغَ نِعْمَتِكَ عَلَيَّ، وَظَاهِرْ كَرَامَاتِهَا لَدَيَّ،
wa-tammim subūgha ni‘matik ‘alayy, wa-ẓāhir karāmātihā ladayy,
and complete the fullness of Your blessing upon me, and make its bestowals manifest with me,
و امْلاْ مِنْ فَوَائِدِكَ يَدَيَّ، وَسُقْ كَرَائِمَ مَوَاهِبِكَ إلَيَّ،
wa-mla’ min fawā’idik yadayy, wa-suq karā’ima mawāhibik ilayy,
and fill my hands from Your benefits, and drive the noblest of Your gifts toward me,
وَجَاوِرْ بِيَ الاَطْيَبِينَ مِنْ أَوْلِيَآئِكَ
wa-jāwir biya l-aṭyabīn min awliyā’ik
and let me neighbor the purest of Your friends
فِي الْجِنَاْنِ الَّتِي زَيَّنْتَهَا لاَِصْفِيآئِكَ،
fī l-jinān allatī zayyantahā li-aṣfiyā’ik,
in the Gardens You have adorned for Your chosen ones,
وَجَلِّلْنِي شَرَآئِفَ نِحَلِكَ فِي الْمَقَامَاتِ الْمُعَدَّةِ لاَِحِبَّائِكَ،
wa-jallilnī sharā’ifa niḥalik fī l-maqāmāt-i l-mu‘addati li-aḥibbā’ik,
and cover me with the noblest of Your grants in the stations prepared for Your beloved ones,
وَاجْعَلْ لِيَ عِنْدَكَ مَقِيْلاً آوِي إلَيْهِ مُطْمَئِنّاً،
wa-j‘al liya maqīlan āwī ilayhi muṭma’innan,
and appoint for me a resting place (maqīl) with You where I take shelter, feeling secure,
وَمَثَابَةً أَتَبَوَّأُهَا وَأَقَرُّ عَيْناً.
wa-mathābatan atabawwa’uhā wa-aqarru ‘aynā.
and a resort (mathābah) where I settle down and am delighted.
وَلاَ تُقَايِسْنِي بِعَظِيمَاتِ الْجَرَائِرِ،
wa-lā tuqāyisnī bi-‘aẓīmāt-i l-jarā’ir,
And do not reckon with me according to the enormities of offenses,
وَلاَ تُهْلِكْنِي يَوْمَ تُبْلَى السَّرَائِرُ،
wa-lā tuhliknī yawma tublā s-sarā’ir,
and do not destroy me on the Day when secrets are tested,
وَأَزِلْ عَنِّي كُلَّ شَكٍّ وَشُبْهَة،
wa-azil ‘annī kulla shakk-in wa-shubhah,
and remove from me all doubt (shakk) and ambiguity (shubhah),
وَاجْعَلْ لِي فِي الْحَقِّ طَرِيقاً مِنْ كُلِّ رَحْمَة،
wa-j‘al lī fī l-ḥaqqi ṭarīqan min kulli raḥmah,
and appoint for me a way to the Truth from every mercy,
وَأَجْزِلْ لِي قِسَمَ الْمَواهِبِ مِنْ نَوَالِكَ،
wa-ajzil lī qisam al-mawāhibi min nawālik,
and make abundant for me the portions of gifts from Your grant,
وَوَفِّرْ عَلَيَّ حُظُوظَ الاِحْسَانِ مِنْ إفْضَالِكَ،
wa-waffir ‘alayya ḥuẓūẓa l-iḥsān min ifḍālik,
and increase for me the shares of benevolence from Your grace,
وَاجْعَلْ قَلْبِي وَاثِقاً بِمَا عِنْدَكَ،
wa-j‘al qalbī wāthiqan bi-mā ‘indak,
and make my heart trusting in what is with You,
وَهَمِّيَ مُسْتَفْرَغاً لِمَا هُوَ لَكَ،
wa-hammī mustafraghan li-mā huwa lak,
and my concern wholly devoted to what is for You,
وَاسْتَعْمِلْنِي بِما تَسْتَعْمِلُ بِهِ خَالِصَتَكَ،
wa-sta‘milnī bi-mā tasta‘milu bihī khāliṣatak,
and employ me in what You employ Your chosen ones to do,
وَأَشْرِبْ قَلْبِي عِنْدَ ذُهُولِ العُقُولِ طَاعَتَكَ،
wa-ashrib qalbī ‘inda dhuhūli l-‘uqūl ṭā‘atak,
and saturate my heart with Your obedience when minds are oblivious,
وَاجْمَعْ لِي الْغِنى، وَالْعَفَافَ، وَالدَّعَةَ، وَالْمُعَافَاةَ،
wa-jma‘ lī l-ghinā, wa-l-‘afāfa, wa-d-da‘ata, wa-l-mu‘āfāt,
and gather for me wealth (al-ghinā), chastity (al-‘afāf), serenity (ad-da‘ah), and freedom from affliction (al-mu‘āfāt),
وَالصِّحَّةَ، وَالسَّعَةَ، وَالطُّمَأْنِيْنَةَ، وَالْعَافِيَةَ،
wa-ṣ-ṣiḥḥah, wa-s-sa‘ah, wa-ṭ-ṭuma’nīnah, wa-l-‘āfiyah,
and health (aṣ-ṣiḥḥah), abundance (as-sa‘ah), tranquility (aṭ-ṭuma’nīnah), and well-being (‘āfiyah),
وَلاَ تُحْبِطْ حَسَنَاتِي بِمَا يَشُوبُهَا مِنْ مَعْصِيَتِكَ،
wa-lā tuḥbiṭ ḥasanātī bi-mā yashūbuhā min ma‘ṣiyatik,
and do not frustrate my good deeds by what taints them of Your disobedience,
وَلاَ خَلَواتِي بِمَا يَعْرِضُ لِيَ مِنْ نَزَغَاتِ فِتْنَتِكَ،
wa-lā khalawātī bi-mā ya‘riḍu liya min nazaghāt-i fitnatik,
and not my privacy by what assails me of the whispers of Your temptation,
وَصُنْ وَجْهِي عَنِ الطَّلَبِ إلَى أَحَد مِنَ الْعَالَمِينَ،
wa-ṣun wajhī ‘an iṭ-ṭalab ilā aḥadin min al-‘ālamīn,
and preserve my face from seeking from anyone in the worlds,
وَذُبَّنِي عَنْ التِماسِ مَا عِنْدَ الفَاسِقِينَ،
wa-dhubbanī ‘ani l-timāsi mā ‘inda l-fāsiqīn,
and ward me off from seeking what is with the wicked (al-fāsiqīn),
وَلاَ تَجْعَلْنِي لِلظَّالِمِينَ ظَهِيراً،
wa-lā taj‘alnī li-ẓ-ẓālimīn ẓahīrā,
and do not make me a supporter for the wrongdoers (aẓ-ẓālimīn),
وَلاَ لَهُمْ عَلى مَحْوِ كِتَابِكَ يَداً وَنَصِيراً،
wa-lā lahum ‘alā maḥwi kitābika yadan wa-naṣīrā,
and not a hand or helper for them in obliterating Your Book,
وَحُطْنِي مِنْ حَيْثُ لاَ أَعْلَمُ حِيَاطَةً تَقِيْنِي بِهَا،
wa-ḥuṭnī min ḥaythu lā a‘lamu ḥiyāṭatan taqīnī bihā,
and surround me from where I do not know with a protection by which You guard me,
وَافْتَحْ لِيَ أَبْوَابَ تَوْبَتِكَ وَرَحْمَتِكَ وَرَأْفَتِكَ وَرِزْقِكَ الواسِعِ،
wa-ftaḥ liya abwāba tawbatik wa-raḥmatik wa-ra’fatik wa-rizqika l-wāsi‘,
and open for me the doors of Your repentance, Your mercy, Your tenderness, and Your vast provision,
إنِّي إلَيْكَ مِنَ الرَّاغِبِينَ،
innī ilayk min ar-rāghibīn,
for I am one of the desirous toward You,
وَأَتْمِمْ لِي إنْعَامَكَ، إنَّكَ خَيْرُ الْمُنْعِمِيْنَ،
wa-atmim lī in‘āmak, innaka khayru l-mun‘imīn,
and complete Your favor upon me, truly You are the best of those who confer favor,
وَاجْعَلْ باقِيَ عُمْرِيْ فِي الْحَجِّ وَالْعُمْرَةِ
wa-j‘al bāqiya ‘umrī fī l-ḥajj wa-l-‘umrah
and appoint the rest of my life to the Hajj and the ‘Umrah [pilgrimages]
ابْتِغَآءَ وَجْهِكَ يَاربَّ الْعَالَمِينَ،
ibti ghā’a wajhik yā rabba l-‘ālamīn,
seeking Your Face, O Lord of the Worlds,
وَصَلَّى اللهُ عَلَى مُحَمَّد وَآلِهِ الطَّيِّبِينَ الطَّاهِرِينَ،
wa-ṣallā llāhu ‘alā muḥammad wa-ālihi ṭ-ṭayyibīna ṭ-ṭāhirīn,
and may God bless Muḥammad and his pure, purified Household,
وَالسَّلاَمُ عَلَيْهِ وَعَلَيْهِمْ أَبَدَ الابِدِينَ.
wa-s-salāmu ‘alayhi wa-‘alayhim abada l-ābidīn.
and peace be upon him and upon them forever and ever.
الْحَمْدُ للهِ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ.
Al-ḥamdu li-llāhi Rabbi l-'ālamīn.
