Dua Kumayl

Supplication of Kumayl

Narrated by Imam Ali

1

bism il-laahir-rah'man ir-rah'eem

In the Name of God, the All-Merciful, the Most Compassionate.

2

allahumma innee as-aluka bi-rah'matik al-latee wasi‘at kulla shay

O God, I ask You by Your mercy, which “embraces all things” (7:156),

3

wa bi-qoowatikal latee qaharta bihaa kulla shay

and by Your strength, through which You dominate all things,

4

wa khad'a‘a lahaa kullu shay

and toward which all things are humble,

5

wa dhalla lahaa kullu shay

and before which all things are lowly;

6

wa bi-jabarootikal-latee ghalabta bihaa kulla shay

and by Your invincibility through which You overwhelm all things,

7

wa bi-‘izzatikal-latee laa yaqoomu lahaa shay

and by Your might, which nothing can resist;

8

wa bi-‘az'amatikal-latee mala-at kulla shay

and by Your tremendousness, which has filled all things;

9

wa bisult'aanikal-lad'ee ‘alaa kulla shay

by Your force, which towers over all things;

10

wa bi-wajhikal-baaqee ba‘da fanaa-i kulli shay

and by Your face, which subsists after the annihilation of all things,

11

wa bi-asmaaikal-latee mal-at arkaana kulli shay

and by Your Names, which have filled the foundations of all things;

12

wa bi-‘ilmikal-ladhee ah'aat'a bikulli shay

and by Your knowledge, which encompasses all things;

13

wa bi-noori wajhikal-lad'ee ad'aa-a lahu kullu shay

and by the light of Your face, through which all things are illumined!

14

yaa nooru yaa quddoos

O Light! O All-holy!

15

yaa awwal al-awwaleen

O First of those who are first,

16

wa yaa aakhir al-aakhireen

and O Last of those who are last!

17

allahumm-aghfirlee adh-dhunoobal-latee tahtikul-‘is'am

O God, forgive me those sins which tear apart safeguards!

18

allahumm-aghfirlee adh-dhunoobal-latee tunzilun-niqam

O God, forgive me those sins which bring down calamaties!

19

allahumm-aghfirlee adh-dhunoobal-latee tughayyirun-ni‘am

O God, forgive me those sins which alter blessings!

20

allahumm-aghfirlee adh-dhunoobal-latee tah'bisud-du’aa

O God, forgive me those sins which hold back supplication!

21

allahumm-aghfirlee adh-dhunoobal-latee tunzilul-balaa

O God, forgive me those sins which bring down misfortune!

22

allahumma-aghfirlee kulla dhanbin adhnabtuhu wa kulla khat'ee-atin akht'a-tuhaa

O God, forgive me every sin I have committed and every mistake I have made!

23

allahumma innee ataqarrabu ilayka bi-dhikrik

O God, in truth I seek nearness to You through remembrance of You,

24

wa astash-fi’u bika ilaa nafsik

and I seek intercession from You with Yourself,

25

wa as-aluka bi-joodika an tudniyanee min qurbik

and I ask You through Your munificence to bring me near to Your closeness,

26

wa an toozi’anee shukrak

and to provide me with gratitude toward You,

27

wa an tulhimanee dhikrak

and to inspire me with Your remembrance.

28

allahumma innee as-aluka su-aala khaad'’in mutadhal-lilin khaa-shi’in an tusaamih'anee wa tarh'amanee

O God, in truth I ask You with the asking of a submissive, abased and lowly human being to show me forbearance, to have mercy on me,

29

wa taj’alanee bi-qismika raad'iyan qaani’an wa fee jamee’il-ah'waali mutawaad'i’an

And to make me satisfied and content with Your apportionment and humble in every state.

30

allahumma wa as-aluka su-aala man ishtaddat faaqatuh

O God, I ask You with the asking of one whose poverty is extreme,

31

wa anzala bika ’indash-shadaa-idi h'aajatahu

who  in difficulties has declared to You his need,

32

wa ’az'uma feemaa ’indaka raghbatuhu

and whose desire for what is with You has become great.

33

allahumma ’az'uma sult'aanuka wa ’alaa makaanuk

O God, Your force is tremendous, Your place is lofty,

34

wa khafiya makruka waz'ahara amruk

and Your deception is hidden, Your command is manifest,

35

wa ghalaba qahruka wa jarat qudratuk

and Your domination is overwhelming, Your power is unhindered,

36

wa laa yumkinul-firaaru min h'ukoomatik

and escape from Your governance is impossible.

37

allahumma laa ajidu li-dhunoobee ghaafira

O God, I find no forgiver of my sins,

38

wa laa liqabaa-ih'ee saatira

no concealer of my ugly acts,

39

wa laa lishay-immin ‘amali al-qabeeh'i bil-h'asani mubaddilan ghayrak

and no transformer of any of my ugly acts into good acts but You.

40

laa ilaha illaa ant

There is no god but You!

41

subh'aanaka wa bih'amdik

Glory be to You, and Yours is the praise!

42

z'alamtu nafsee

I have wronged myself,

43

wa tajarra-tu bijah-lee

and I have been vainly rash in my ignorance,

44

wa sakantu ilaa qadeemi dhikrika lee wa mannika ‘alay

and I have depended upon Your enduring remembrance of me and Your favour toward me.

45

allahumma mawlaay

O God! O my Protector!

46

kam min qabeeh'in satartah

How many ugly things You have concealed!

47

wa kam min faadih'in min al-balaa-i aqaltah

How many burdensome tribulations You have alleviated!

48

wa kam min ‘ithaarin waqaytah

And how many stumbles You have prevented!

49

wa kam min makroohin dafa‘tah

And how many ordeals You have repelled!

50

wa kam min thanaa-in jameelin lastu ahlaal lahu nashartah

And how much beautiful praise, for which I was unworthy, You have spread afar!

51

allahumma ‘az'uma balaa-ee

O God, my tribulation is tremendous,

52

wa afrat'a bee soo-uh'aalee

and my bad state is excessive,

53

wa qas'urat bee a‘maalee

my good deeds are inadequate,

54

wa qa‘adat bee aghlaalee

and my shackles have tied me down,

55

wa h'abasanee ‘an-naf‘ee bu‘du aamaalee

and my far-fetched hopes have held me back from my gain,

56

wa khada‘atnid-dunyaa bi-ghuroorihaa wa nafsee bi-jinayatiha wa mit'aalee

and this world with its delusions, my own soul with its offences and my procrastination have all deceived me.

57

yaa sayyidee fa-as-aluka bi-‘izzatika an laa yah'juba ‘anka du‘aa-ee soo-u ‘amalee wa fi‘aalee

O my Master! I ask You by Your might not to let my evil works veil my supplication from You,

58

wa laa tafd'ah'nee bi-khafee-yi maa t'ala‘ta ‘alayhi min sirree

and not to disgrace me through the hidden things You know of my secrets,

59

wa laa tu‘aajilnee bil-‘uqoobati ‘alaa maa ‘amiltuhu fee khalawaatee

and not to speed me to punishment for what I have done in private;

60

min soo-i fi‘lee wa isaa-atee

my evil acts in secrecy and my misdeeds,

61

wa dawaami tafreet'ee wa jahaalatee

and my continuous negligence and my ignorance,

62

wa kathrati shahawaatee wa ghaflatee

my manifold passions and my heedlessness.

63

wa kun illaahumma bi-‘izzatika lee fee kul-lil ah'waali ra-oofaa

And by Your might, O God, be kind to me in all conditions,

64

wa ‘alayya fee jamee‘-il umooree ‘at'oofaa

and be gracious to me in all affairs!

65

ilahee wa rabbee man lee ghayruka as-aluhu kashfa d'urree wan-naz'ara fee amree

My God and my Lord! Have I any but You from whom to ask removal of my affliction and concern for my affairs!

66

ilahee wa mawlaya ajrayta ‘alayya h'ukman ittaba‘tu feehi hawaa nafsee

My God and my Protector! You decreed a law for me and yet I obeyed the whims of my own soul,

67

wa lam ah'taris feehi min tazeeni ‘adoowee

and did not guard myself against the allurements of my enemy.

68

fa-gharranee bi-maa ahwaa wa as‘adahu ‘alaa dhaalik al-qad'aa

So, he deceived me with vain hopes and in doing so, destiny favored him.

69

fa-tajaawaztu bi-maa jaraa ‘alayya min dhaalika ba‘d'a h'udoodik

Therefore, I transgressed the limits set for me by You,

70

wa khaalaftu ba‘d'a awaamirik

and disobeyed some of Your commands.

71

falakal h'ujjatu ‘alayya fee jamee‘i dhaalik

So Yours is the case against me in all of that.

72

wa laa h'ujjata lee feemaa jaraa ‘alayya feehi qad'aa-uka

I have no argument in what Your destiny put into effect through me,

73

wa alzamanee h'ukmuka wa balaa-uk

nor in what Your decree and Your tribulation imposed upon me.

74

wa qad ataytuka yaa ilahee ba‘da taqs'eeree wa israafee ‘alaa nafsee

Now I have come to You, My God, after my shortcomings and my lack of control over myself,

75

mu‘atadhiran naadiman

offering my excuse, regretful,

76

munkasiraan mustaqeelan

broken, repentful,

77

mustaghfiran muneeban

asking forgiveness, repenting,

78

muqirran mudh‘inan mu‘tarifa

acknowledging, submissive, confessing.

79

laa ajidu mafarran mimmaa kaana minnee

I cannot flee from that which was done by me,

80

wa laa mafza‘an atawajjahu ilayhi fee amree

nor any place of escape to which I may turn in my affairs,

81

ghayra qaboolika ‘udhree wa idkhaalika eeyaya fee sa‘atin mirrah'matik

other than Your acceptance of my excuse and Your entering me into the breadth of Your mercy.

82

allahumma faqbal ‘udhree

O God, so accept my excuse,

83

warh'am shiddata d'uree

have mercy upon the severity of my affliction,

84

wa fukkanee min shaddi wathaaqee

and release me from the tightness of my bonds.

85

yaa rabb irh'am d'a‘fa badanee wa riqqata jildee wa diqqata ‘az'mee

My Lord, have mercy on the weakness of my body, the thinness of my skin and the frailty of my bones.

86

yaa mam badaa khalqee wa dhikree wa tarbiyatee wa birree wa tagh-dhiyatee

O You who gave rise to my creation, to the remembrance of me, to the nurturing of me, to goodness toward me and to nourishing me;

87

habnee laabtidaa-i karamika wa saalifi birrika bee

give to me, for the sake of Your having created me with generosity and Your previous goodness to me!

88

yaa ilahee wa sayyidee wa rabbee

O God, my Master and my Lord!

89

aturaaka mu‘adh-dhibee bi-naarik ba‘da tawh'eedik

Can You see Yourself tormenting me with Your fire after I have professed Your Unity,

90

and after my heart has embraced  the knowledge of You,

91

wa lahija bihi lisaanee min dhikrik

and my tongue has constantly mentioned the memory of You,

92

wa a‘taqadahu d'ameeree min h'ubbik

and after my concience has acknowledged Your love,

93

wa ba‘da s'idqi‘-tiraafee wa du‘aa-ee khaad'i‘aal li-ruboobee-yatik

and after the sincerity of my confession and my prayer, humble before Your Lordship?

94

hayhaat anta akramu min an tud'ayyi‘a min rabbaytah

Far be it from You! You are too generous to let a person go to waste whom You have nurtured,

95

aw tub‘ida man adnaytah

or banish a person whom You have brought close,

96

aw tusharrida man aawaytah

or drive away a person to whom You have given a haven,

97

aw tuslima ilaa al-balaa-i man kafaytahu wa rah'imtahu

or submit a person to tribulation whom You have spared and shown mercy.

98

wa layta shi‘ree yaa sayyidee wa ilahee wa mawlaay

I wish I had known, my Master, My God, and my Protector!

99

atusallit'un naara ‘alaa wujoohin kharrat li-‘az'amatika saajidah

Will You give the Fire dominion over faces fallen down prostrate before Your Tremendousness,

100

wa ‘alaa al-sunin nat'aqat bi-tawh'eedik s'aadiqa wa bi-shukrika maadih'a

and over tongues voicing sincerely the proclamation of Your Unity and giving thanks to You in praise,

101

wa ‘alaa quloobin a‘tarafat bi-ilaheeyatika muh'aqqiqah

and over hearts acknowledging Your Divinity through verification,

102

wa ‘alaa d'amaa-ira h'awat minal-‘ilmi bika h'attaa s'aarat khaashi‘a

and over minds encompassing knowledge of You until they have become humble,

103

wa ‘alaa jawaarih'a sa‘at ilaa awt'aani ta‘abbudika t'aa-i‘a wa ashaarat bis-tighfaarika mudh‘ina

and over the parts of the body hurrying to the places of Your worship in obedience, and beckoning for Your forgiveness in submission?

104

maa hakadhaa z'unnubik wa laa ukhbirnaa bi-fad'lika ‘anka

No such opinion is held of You! Nor has such been reported - thanks to Your bounty — concerning You,

105

yaa kareemu yaa rab

O All-generous! My Lord,

106

wa anta ta‘lamu d'a‘fee ‘an qaleelin min balaa id-dunyaa wa ‘uqoobaatihaa

You know my weakness when experiencing a little bit of this world's troubles and punishments,

107

wa maa ْyajree feehaa min al-makaarihi ‘alaa ahlihaa

and in the face of those ordeals which happen to its inhabitants,

108

‘alaa anna dhaalika balaa-u wa makroohun qaleelun makthuhu, yaseerun baqaa-uhu, qas'eerun muddatuh

even though these tribulations and ordeals last for only a short time.

109

fakayfah'-timaalee libalaa il-akhira wa jaleeli wuqoo‘il makaarihi feehaa!

So how can I endure the tribulations of the next world and the great ordeals that occur within it?

110

wa huwa balaa-un tat'oolu muddatuhu, wa yadoomu maqaamuhu, wa laa yukhaffafu ‘an ahlihi

For it is a tribulation whose period is long, whose condition endures and whose sufferers are given no rest,

111

li-annahu laa yakoonu ilaa ‘an ghad'abika wan-tiqaamika wa sakhat'ik

since it only occurs as a result of Your wrath, Your vengeance and Your anger,

112

wa hadhaa maa laa taqoomu lahu samaawaatu wal-ard'

and these cannot be withstood by the heavens and the earth.

113

yaa sayyidee fakayfa bee

O Master, so what about me?!

114

wa ana ‘abduka d'a‘eefu d'aleel al-h'aqeerul-miskeenul-mustakeen

For I am Your weak, lowly, humble, wretched and miserable servant.

115

yaa ilahee wa rabbee wa sayyidee wa mawlaay

My God! My Lord! My Master! My Protector!

116

li-ay il-umoori ilayka ashkoo

For which things would I complain to You?

117

wa limaa minhaa ad'ijju wa abkee

And for which of them would I lament and weep?

118

li-aleem il-‘adhaabi wa shiddatih

For the pain and severity of chastisement?

119

am lit'ool lil-balaa-i wa muddatih

Or for the length and period of tribulation?

120

fa-la-in s'ayyar tanee lil-‘uqoobaati ma‘a a‘daa-ik

So if You take me to the punishments with Your enemies,

121

wa jama‘ta baynee wa bayna ahli balaa-ik

and gather me with the people of Your tribulation,

122

wa farraqta baynee wa bayna ah'ibbaa-ika wa awliyaa-ik

and separate me from Your friends and saints;

123

fa-habnee yaa ilahee wa sayyidee wa mawlaay wa rabbee s'abartu ‘alaa ‘adhaabik

Even supposing, my God, my Master, my Protector and my Lord that I am able to endure Your chastisement,

124

fakayfa as'biru ‘alaa firaaqika

how can I endure separation from You?

125

wa habnee s'abartu ‘alaa h'arri naarik

And suppose that I am able to endure the heat of Your fire,

126

fakayfa as'biru ‘an in-naz'ari ilaa karaamatik

how can I endure not gazing upon Your generosity?

127

am kayfa askunu fin-naar wa rajaa-ee ‘afook

Or how can I dwell in the Fire while my hope is Your pardon?

128

fabi‘izzatika yaa sayyidee wa mawlaay uqsimu s'aadiqan la-in taraktanee naat'iqan

So by Your might, my Master and my Protector, I swear sincerely, if You leave me with speech,

129

lad'ijjanna ilayka bayna ahlihaa d'ajeej-al-amileen

I will lament to You from among the Fire's inhabitants with the lamentations of the hopeful;

130

wa la-as'rukhanna ilayka s'uraakhal-mustas'rikheen

I will cry to You with the cry of those crying for help;

131

wa la-abkiyanna ‘alayka bukaa al-faaqideen

I will weep to You with the weeping of the bereft;

132

wa la-unaadiyannaka ayna kunta yaa walee al-mu-mineen

And I will call to You, "Where are You, O Sponsor of the believers,

133

yaa ghaayata aamaal il-‘aarifeen

O Goal of the hopes of Your knowers,

134

yaa ghiyaath al-mustagheetheen

O Aid of those who seek assistance,

135

yaa h'abeeba quloob is'-s'aadiqeen

O Friend of the hearts of the sincere,

136

wa yaa ilahal-‘aalameen

And, God of all the world's inhabitants!"

137

afaturaaka subh'aanaka yaa ilahee wa bih'amdik tasma‘u feehaa s'awta ‘abdin muslimin

Can You see Yourself — Glory be to You My God, and Yours is the praise — hearing within the Fire the voice of a servant who has submitted to You,

138

sujina feehaa bi-mukhaalafatih

imprisoned there because of his violations,

139

wa dhaaqa ta‘ama ‘adhaabihaa bi-ma‘s'iyatih

tasting the flavor of its torment because of his disobedience,

140

wa h'ubisa bayna at'baaqihaa bijurmi wa jareeratih

and confined within its levels because of his sin and crime,

141

wa huwa yad'ijju ilayka d'ajeeja mu-ammilil-rah'matik

while he laments to You with the lament of one hopeful for Your mercy,

142

wa yunaadeeka bi-lisaani ahli tawh'eedik

and calls to You with the tongue of those who profess Your Unity,

143

wa yatawassalu ilayka bi-ruboobeeyatik

and pleads with You by Your Lordship!

144

yaa mawlaay fa-kayfa yabqaa fil-‘adhaab wa huwa yarjoo maa salafa min h'ilmik

So, my Protector, how should he remain in punishment, while he has hope for Your previous forbearance and compassion?

145

am kayfa tu-limuhun-naar wa huwa ya-malu fad'laka wa rah'matak

Or how should the Fire cause him pain while he expects Your bounty and mercy?

146

am kayfa yuh'riquhu laheebuhaa wa anta tas-ma‘u s'awtah wa taraa makaanah

Or how should its flames burn him, while You hear his voice and see his place?

147

am kayfa yashtamilu ‘alayhi zafeeruhaa wa anta ta‘lamu da‘fah

Or how should its roaring flames spread over him, while You know his weakness?

148

am kayfa yataqalqalu bayna at'baaqihaa wa anta ta‘lamu s'idqah

Or how should he be convulsed amongst its levels, while You know his sincerity?

149

am kayfa tazjuruhu zabaaniyatuhaa wa huwa yunaadeeka yaa rabbah

Or how should its keepers torture him while he calls out to You, “O Lord”?

150

am kayfa yarjoo fad'laka fee ‘itqihi minhaa fatatrukuhu feehaa

Or how should he have hope of Your bounty in freeing him from it, while You abandon him within it?

151

hayhaat maa dhaalik az'-z'annubik

Far be it from You! That is not what is expected of You,

152

wa lal-ma‘roofu min fad'lik

nor what is well-known of Your bounty,

153

wa laa mushbiha limaa ‘aamalta bihil-muwah'ideena min birrika wa ih'saanik

nor does it resemble the goodness and kindness You have shown to those who profess Your Unity.

154

fa-bilyaqeeni aqt'a‘u law laa maa h'akamta bihi min ta‘dheebi jaah'ideek

So I declare with certainty, that were it not for what You have ordained concerning the punishment of Your deniers

155

wa qad'ayta bihi min ikhlaadi mu‘aanideek

and what You have ordained from long ago about the everlasting home of those who stubbornly resist,

156

laja‘alta naar kullahaa bardan wa salaamaa

you would make the Fire -all of it- cold and peaceful,

157

wa maa kaana li-ah'adin feehaa maqarran wa laa muqaamaa

and no one would have an abode or place within it.

158

lakinnaka taqaddasat asmaa-uk aqsamta an tamlahaa min al-kaafireen;

But You —holy are Your Names—have sworn that You will fill it with the unbelievers,

159

min al-jinnati wan-naasi ajma‘een

both spirits (Jinn) and men together,

160

wa an tukhallida feehaal-mu‘aanideen

and that You will place those who stubbornly resist in that place forever.

161

wa anta jalla thanaa-uk qulta mubtadi'aa wa tat'awalta bil-in‘aami mutakarrimaa

And You — majestic is Your praise— said at the beginning and were gracious and kind as a favor,

162

afaman kaana muminaan kaman kaana faasiqan laa yastawoon

“What? Is he who has been a believer like him who has been ungodly? They are not equal.” (32:18)

163

ilahee wa sayyidee fa-asaluka bil-qudratillatee qaddartahaa

My God and my Master! So I ask You by the power You have determined,

164

wa bil-qad'eeyatil-latee h'atamtahaa wa h'akamtahaa wa ghalabta man ‘alayhi aj-raytahaa

and by the decision which You have determined and imposed, and through which You have overcome him toward whom it has been put into effect,

165

an tahaba lee fee hadhihil-laylat wa fee hadhihees-saa‘ah

that You forgive me in this night and at this hour:

166

kulla jurmin ajramtuh

Every offence I have committed,

167

wa kulla dhan-bin adhnabtuh

And every sin I have performed,

168

wa kulla qabeeh'in asrartuh

And every ugly thing I have concealed

169

wa kulla jahlin ‘amiltuhuu,

And every foolish deed I have done;

170

katamtuhu aw a‘lantuhu,

whether I have hidden or announced it,

171

akhfaytuhu aw az'hartuh

or I have concealed it or showed it,

172

wa kulla sayyi-atin amarta bi-ithbaatiha al-kiraam al-kaatibeen

and every evil act which You have commanded the Noble Writers (Scribe Angels) to record;

173

al-ladheena wa kaltahum bi-h'ifz'imaa yakoonu minnee

those whom You have appointed to watch over what I do,

174

wa ja‘altahum shuhoodan ‘alayya ma' jawaarih'ee

and whom You have made, along with my bodily parts, witnesses against me.

175

wa kunta anta raqeeba ‘alayya min waraa-ihim

And “You were Yourself the Watcher” (5:117) over me from behind them,

176

wash-shaahida limaa khafiya ‘anhum

and the Witness of what is hidden from them.

177

wa bi-rah'matika akhfaytahu

But through Your mercy You concealed it,

178

wa bifad'lika satartah

and through Your bounty You veiled it.

179

wa an tuwaffira h'az'ee min kulli khayrin anzaltah

[And I ask You] that You give me an abundant share of every good You send down,

180

aw ih'saanin fazzaltah

or kindness You confer,

181

aw birrin nashartah

or goodness You unfold,

182

aw rizqin basattah

or provision You spread out,

183

aw dh'ambin taghfiruyhu

or sin You forgive,

184

aw khat'ain tasturuhu

or error You cover.

185

yaa rabbi yaa rabbi yaa rabb

My Lord! My Lord! My Lord!

186

yaa ilahee wa sayyidee wa mawlay wa maalika riqqee

My God! My Master! My Protector! Owner of my bondage!

187

yaa man bi-yadihi naas'iyatee

O He who grips me by the hair on my forehead!

188

yaa ‘aleemaan bid'uree wa maskanatee

O He who knows my affliction and my misery!

189

yaa khabeeraan bi-faqree wa faaqatee

O He who is aware of my poverty and destitution!

190

yaa rabbi yaa rabbi yaa rabb

My Lord! My Lord! My Lord!

191

as-aluka bi-h'aqqika wa qudsik

I ask You by Your Truth and Your Holiness,

192

wa a'z'ami s'ifaatika wa asmaa-ika

and the greatest of Your Attributes and Names,

193

an taj‘ala awqaatee fil-layli wan-nahaar bi-dh'ikrika ma‘moorah

that You make my times in the night and the day filled with Your remembrance,

194

wa bikhidmatika maws'oolah

and joined to Your service,

195

wa a‘maalee ‘indaka maqboolah

and my deeds acceptable to You,

196

h'attaa takoona a‘maalee wa awraadee kulluhaa wirdan waah'idan

so that my deeds and my litanies may all be a single litany

197

wa h'aalee fee khidmatika sarmadaa

and my occupation with Your service everlasting.

198

yaa sayyidee yaa man ‘alayhi mu‘awwalee

My Master! O He upon whom I depend!

199

yaa man ilayhi shakawtu ah'waalee

O He to whom I complain about my conditions!

200

yaa rabbi yaa rabbi yaa rabb

My Lord! My Lord! My Lord!

201

qawwi ‘alaa khidmatika jawaarih'ee

Strengthen my limbs in Your service,

202

washdud ‘alaal-‘azeemati jawaanih'ee

and fortify my ribs in determination,

203

wa hab lee al-jidda fee khashyatik

and give me earnestness in my fear of You,

204

wad-dawaama fil-itis'aali bi-khidmatik

and continuity in my being joined to Your service,

205

h'attaa as-rah'a ilayka fee mayaadeen is-saabiqeen

so that I may move easily toward You in the battlefields ,

206

wa us-ri‘a ilayka fil-barezin

and hasten to You among the prominent ones,

207

wa ashtaaqa ilaa qurbika fil-mushtaaqeen

and desire fervently Your closeness among the fervently desirous,

208

wa adnuwa minka dunoo wal-mukhlis'een

and move nearer to You with the nearness of the sincere,

209

wa akhaafaka makhaafat al-mooqineen

and fear You with the fear of those who have certitude,

210

wa ajtami‘a fee jiwaarika ma‘al-mumneen

and gather with the believers in Your vicinity.

211

allahumma wa man araadanee bi-soo-in faarid

O God, whoever desires evil for me, desire [it] for him!

212

wa man kaadanee fakid

Whoever deceives me, deceive him!

213

waj-‘alnee min ah'sani ‘abeedika nas'eeban ‘indak

And make me one of the most excellent of Your servants in (receiving his) portion from You,

214

wa aqrabihim manzilatan mink

and the nearest of them in condition to You,

215

wa akhas'ihim zulfatal ladayk

and the most elect of them in closeness to You;

216

fa-innahu laa yunaalu dhaalika illaa bi-fad'lik

for no one can obtain that except through Your bounty.

217

wa judlee bijoodik

Grant generously to me through Your charity,

218

wa‘t'if ‘alayya bi-majdik

and incline toward me with Your splendor,

219

wah'faz'nee birah'matik

and protect me with Your mercy!

220

waj‘al lisaanee bidhikrika lahijaa

And make my tongue remember You without ceasing,

221

wa qalbee bi-h'ubbika mutayyamaa

And my heart enthralled by Your love!

222

wa munna ‘alayya bih'usni ijaabatik

And be gracious to me by answering me favorably,

223

wa aqilnee ‘athratee

and nullify my slips,

224

waghfir zallatee

and forgive my lapses!

225

fa-innaka qad'ayta ‘alaa ‘ibaadika bi-‘ibaadatik

For You have decreed Your worship for Your servants,

226

wa amartahum bi-du‘aa-ik

and commanded them to supplicate You,

227

wa d'aminta lahumul-ijaabah

and assured them that they would be answered.

228

fa-ilayka yaa rabbi nas'abtu wajhee

So toward You, my Lord, I have turned my face;

229

wa ilayka yaa rabbi madadtu yadee

and toward You, my Lord, I have extended my hand.

230

fa-bi‘izzatikas-tajib lee du‘aa-ee

So by Your might, answer my prayer,

231

wa ballighnee munaay

and let me attain my wishes!

232

wa laa taqt'a‘ min fad'lika rajaa-ee

Do not cut off my hopes of Your favor,

233

wak-finee sharral-jinni wal-insi min a‘daa-ee

and spare me the evil of my enemies from among the spirits (jinn) and men!

234

yaa sari‘ar-rid'aa

O He, whose pleasure is quickly achieved!

235

ighfirliman laa yamliku ilaa du‘aa

Forgive he who owns nothing but supplication,

236

fa-innaka fa‘aalul limaa tashaa

for You do what You will.

237

yaa man ismuhu dawaa

O He whose Name is a remedy,

238

wa dhikruhu shifaa

and whose remembrance is a cure,

239

wa t'aa‘atuhu ghinan

and whose obedience is wealth!

240

irh'am man ra-su maalihir-rajaa

Have mercy upon him whose only asset is hope,

241

wa silaah'uhul-bukaa

and whose weapon is tears!

242

yaa saabighan-ni‘am

O One rich in blessings!

243

yaa daafi‘an-niqam

O Repeller of adversities!

244

yaa nooral-mustaw-h'isheena fi-z'ulam

O Light of those who are alone in the darkness!

245

yaa ‘aalima laa yu‘allam

O Knower who was never taught!

246

s'alli ‘alaa muh'ammadin wa aali muh'ammad

Bless Muhammad and Muhammad's household!

247

waf‘al bee maa anta ahluh

And do with me what is befitting of You!

248

wa s'allaallahu ‘alaa rasoolihi wal-a-immatil-mayaameena min aalihi

And God bless His messenger and the holy Imams of his household,

249

wa sallama tasleeman katheeraa

And give them abundant peace!
